Adding Trees...

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Is there going to be a full release of this mod?
Here is the Mod – the second download is the Jump Map!

KS_MM.rar
I haven’t posted it, due to the fact that we were venturing into a sort of trial – testing – see what works phase!

D,

3 questions - 1) Is there a difference between KS 1 and KS 2? 2) Is the KS.MM map the same one as before? 3)Which KS map is the first one with the stock green trees? Seem to have lost that one somewhere along the way. Want to put that one in as a Mod also.

Jack ,

1) The difference between the first Kansas_Map_1, and the second one – Kansas_Map_2 is that the first one contained the slow movements on the battlefield. So I corrected the KS.csv file.

So - Download the Map2 for a complete Map Mod – with the correct movement speeds.

2) The KS_MM - file in Map_1 and in Map_2 - just has the names on the Jump Map - the areas that contained the trees are not defined, as in the last picture that I posted on Page 3.

3) To have the Original Map – just deactivate the Mod – but you already know this, so I do not understand the question, probably!

I never saved the map without the fall trees, but there is a very simple solution, here!

Copy the Kansas_Map_2 – onto the Desktop.

Rename it – Kansas_Map_2Original – or something like that!

Then, replace the fall trees, for the Default ones.

The reason that I didn’t want you to name it something like Kansas_Map_3 – is due to the fact that I’m probably going to make several more of these.

Davinci, What a difference a tree makes!!! The terrain is excellent, a whole new map has been created. With all the small trees and rough terrain it looks a little more like Kansas,or at least as I would imagine it. Thank you. I just played a game on it and it felt much better than the stock map. Thank you Norb for the stock map in the first place. Love this game.

D,

As always, thanks. The "Original" map I was asking about was the first one you did with the green trees in a multiple forest or woods setting with the corn and wheat fields, which you and I edited back and forth. BUT, I changed my mind, would rather just have the Fall trees map for Kansas. Understand about the rest. Might do it later.

FPS is looking good here. Ran a 45,000 man game last night with minimal FPS problems. Good Job!

D,

So, threw in the map mod. Trees everywhere!!! Actually started to affect my FPS, quite a bit actually. Might be a good idea to thin them out a bit. Maybe by half, in smaller copses. Looks great though.

Idea - what about snow? If we can change the rocks and such, can we add snow, say in patches? What do you think?

Jack
Hi Jack.

I'm in agreement with you, my fps was taking a hit as well. I sure do like the map though...

Later!

M,

Try the new Fall Trees download. It is actually not really affecting my FPS that much and only at certain times. Make sure you get the better jump map also. You can edit the trees some if you need to increase the FPS. It is very easy.

D,

Think we've really hit on something here.

Thanks, RDBoles !
But, I think that the credit here goes to other modders – Crikey, DavidD, Norb & Team, and without Jack – I never would have thought of this!

OK, I think that that was before I converted all of the fall trees into the map. I never really planned on going beyond that, but you know the story with modding!

Also – Remember that you can also make another map out of this one by adding the fog settings – which should provide a few more hours of enjoyment to a map!

I should have another one before the week is up but that depends on how I do the road system.

Also – my FPS will move up and down depending on how many men are marching at the same time, once the marching stops and units start engaging, the fps will slightly increase.

Also – the new patch should increase the FPS slightly also – but if all else fails – just raise the density levels up something like (250), if that doesn’t work, well nothing will work except deactivating the mod!

My Brother,

FPS is fine right now. Running a 50,000 man Chicamauga OOB SP game right now. No problems.
FOG! - yes, fog would be great! I remember foggy early mornings in Virginia and Georgia. Sweet! Will hook that up right away. God, what a great map this has turned out to be!
