I must say you are tough to convince. I would remind you that James Allen's review was written a year and a half ago. There have been substantial improvements to the game since then. Even so, 7/8 from him is a pretty damn good review and I've read them all.
This game is too difficult and not handy in use
This is not an arcade game. There are several difficulty levels to choose from if you want something easier.

Finally I would say to you, to paraphrase the great Lee Iacocca,"If you can find a better game, buy it."

That what I said about his review. It was very good, detailed and informative.
I also know that there were improvments to SoWG, however I have not tested new version of the game yet.
They did not change this game radically I suppose. Then there still are some problems.

I knew that it is not an arcade game, however there are many problems which can not be solved only with difficulty levels. I have not time to explain all these things now, but believe me they are not handy.

According great Lee Iacocca paraphrase - now I can understant why Americans would like to buy so many, many Japanese, European and even Korean cars. Sometimes it was and is more than their own made Americans, isn't it. B)

Keep it cool. I don't want to be rude here and don't want to criticise SoWG or USA automobile industry.
American cars are fine and it can be fine the game too. But all they needs some improvements.

My hard, but true remarks could be better than all these lovely, holow words which we can found in marketing speach.

I will wait for progress in gunship's NW mod.

Good luck.

I don't think there's a need for us to pick the game apart here. It's all up to you to decide if you like the game or not. There are more than enough positive reviews of the game if you are having doubts. But what it comes down to is; you play it, you like it, you buy it. You play it, you don't like it, don't buy it. That's the beauty of having a demo. :)

I find it somewhat interesting that this dude has only played the demo a couple of times and read some reviews and watched a few youtube videos and yet claims to know about more "problems" than he has time to explain.

I've played as many if not more war games than just about anyone. And without question, SOWGB is the best I've played and the most historically accurate and has a team which is constantly striving to improve this already fantastic game.

Is this game perfect? No. Is this game the best Civil War game ever made? Yes.

N,

Ahhh...but you did download the Demo. You say you are confused during combat...excellent (insert Mr. Burns voice here.) It appears you are intreeged, (did I spell that right?.) Anyway, take a little time to get to know the command structure - thats what the tutorials are for. The Take Command system requires some skills to get used to. You'll do it. Remember, all great generals start out as confused junior officers. ;)

BTW - I don't really care about the American car companies either. EXCEPT VW is now an american company - made in Tenneessee, I believe.

Gunship,

Roger that. There will be some things that just cannot be done. The Battalion column on a 2 company "division" front would be really cool as an assault column. (For those of you who want to know, this is the Column d' Division d' Battalion formation alluded to earlier.) 2 companies wide but x lines deep depending on the year of organization for the French. (Note - this is apparently what Napoleon was ordering for d'Erlon's attack at Waterloo, but Soult thought he meant Column of Battalions d' Division, or the Division advancing on a single Battalion front, each battalion advancing one behind the other. Bad Juju there.)

Nowy,

My specialty also is the Napoleonic Wars, But in difference, I also study the Civil War.
I liked this so much, I joined and wrote the scenarios for Gettysburg.
This will handle the Napoleonic wars. It still needs some tweeking to do it right, but it is the best out there.
Plus, you can mod vitually everything here. (including formations)
OOB's can be created easliy and in detail.
And all "Art" can be changed to represent Napoleonics.
Basically, you can mod it to be very close to the N.W.

I admit that there is tweaking needed on the engine to make a perfect Napoleonic game. But Norb is not far off.
This blows Total war out of the water, but it is not perfect.
There is always room for improvement.
But it is very well done.

Maybe this dude was more clever than someone thought.
Even newbie can sometime see more than old chap, because he has fresh sight of view or simply better eyes and is sharp-witted.
Is this game perfect? No.
Agree.
Is this game the best Civil War game ever made? Yes.

Maybe you are right. I don’t know all these CW games ever made, and only played the demo a couple of times and ….
Nevertheless I will trust in you.

Even newbie dude can trampled under foot such funny trap, of course only when it is not an explosive mine.

Thank you that you also can see this needs.

Maybe this game isn’t perfect, but what game is?

But, the bottom line is that it has to be some-where close to being playable, considering that gunship24 has spent several-hundred hours of his time modding it!

Now, who in the #$!! would do that for a crappy-game?

Nail on the head, old chum. Perhaps we could just say that TW Napoleon just blows........
