Melee Bug
Re: Melee Bug
As far as I know, you can't mod how deadly the rifles are at different ranges separately.

Re: Melee Bug
That would be awesome. I think I brought this up in a previous post, but something where the closer enemy regiments get to each other, the more likelihood they have of suffer a morale drop (a very temporary one based on range). Of course, this would mean a lot of variables would have to be added in, such as number of enemy units to friendly, etc...Georgia and Soldier are right on. Soldiers solution of making under 50yards very deadly would help. Isn't that possible by just using the "rifles" table? Couldn't we implement that now?

Re: Melee Bug
I haven't been able to make our nightly MP game for the last few evenings. That being said, the last i played, there seemed to be no issue with the melee bug. I thought our "gentlemans agreement" was working well. The last time i did play Matt and I pretty much rolled up the enemies right flank, which included Seals division, and, as i said, never any reason to expect anything other than "normal" MP play...Have things really fallen so far, so fast?

No Chris, everything is fine. It was only one battle, and hopefully, we can count on everyone to play fair from now on.I haven't been able to make our nightly MP game for the last few evenings. At least Seal didn't try to hide the fact he was using the exploit. I'll give him that.

Re: Melee Bug
The solution, as Beef said last night, is for players not to retaliate by using the melee bug just because they think that it is being used against them (which may be difficult if they are in the middle of losing a melee). Apparently, the log files can shed some light on who has or has not been using it. So if it is suspected, those files can be checked, and the guilty party can be called out on it.
Personally, you have my word that I will not be using it under any circumstances - if for no other reason than to spare myself from Soldier's wrath. I consider this matter closed now though, and am sorry that it has taken up so much space here on the forum.

Re: Melee Bug
Understood and I retract my previous post. The way this thread evolved, I thought several players were aware of it in game and it was being used against me. As for Seal, I wasn't "enabling" him as I was covering his flank - if that is "enabling" than all of us who play with Seal have no option but to not cover his flank!Consider this an appology if offence was taken Willard.Im sorry.
Cleburne
I don't condone Seal's column charging tactics and have argued against them since the game was released. Unfortunately many of the recommendations I have submitted to fix this problem have been rejected. Additionally, the GCM mode we play actually encourages the use of column charging as the artillery has been nerfed way too much. I would concede that the stock game arty may be a bit too effective but GCM is way too ineffective - something in between would be a good happy medium. But that isn't going to get fixed until at least Garnier increases gun crews to 15 (to increase reload times) and improves the effectiveness of guns so that canister is a truly effective deterrent.
Anyway, as far as I am concerned you and I are good to go.

Re: Melee Bug
Please see my response to Cleburne. The way this thread was written it appeared to me that everyone knew what was going on but me. I think everyone knows that I hate melee and that I only use it in extreme circumstances.Willard,
In defense of Cleburne, he told me he thought he found a bug by accident in that game. As most of you know, Cleburne avoids melee like it's the King's knickers. But in that game, he responded to Seal's charge, and while his unit was in melee, he kept clicking the button to make sure they were in fact charging. It was then he noticed it.
We tested it and confirmed it.
