Grog,

Thank you. It is an excellent period of warfare to study. I have no idea how to deal with the packing issue. I have noticed the FPS hit is smaller if played on the big "Gettysburg" map.

I hadn't planned on releasing it as a Mod. Never really thought about it. Probably have to get Alessillos permission to do so since they are his sprites. (I never take credit for something I didn't do). Also, I am having an incredible time getting the Artillery to port over. The wagons and oxen are a huge pain, also.

As an aside, Yes, this would be awesome in MP.

I have that pic also, ;) The Gentleman in question was allegedly Lord John Hay of the 1st. Guards Regiment (British). As the lines closed at Fontenoy 1745(?), the ranks were literally eyeball to eyeball. He stepped from the ranks, brandished a flask and drank a toast to the French Guardsmen opposite him, inviting them to fire first. They declined, courteously. The British then unleashed a devastating series of volleys, practically destroying the front ranks of the French Guards Battalions opposite them. They then advanced.......

All,

So, for about a week, off and on. I've tried to get the Artillery to join the game but no joy. At one point, I actually had the Gun and crew sprites to show on the screen, but that was it. Bloody graphics angles and textures are amazingly complex compared to the Infantry or Cavalry. Guess I'll just wait until Alessillo posts his Spanish Succession War Mod and steal the batteries from that. LOL!

Hey Jack I have a question where these sprites taken from total war and converted to work in the game if so how hard would it be to use some of the sprites from some of the civil war mods to add to the game?

C,

I actually don't know the origins of these sprites. I "believe" that Alessillo did these himself for his Frederick the Great Mod for TC2M. If your pulling sprites from another established game, you must have permission since they are "write-protected," and therefore the property of the game company. Alessillo had to get permission from TW to use their sprites in his new Mod for the Spanish Succession War.

Converting sprites is a very time-consuming chore. Just getting the angle and textures so they run is a major pain. However, I am not saying it can't be done.

All,

Here is an example of what the difficulties are with sprites.

I went back and took another shot at porting over "actual" French Infantry to use instead of the Saxons I am using now. Weirdly enough I got it mostly right on the first try EXCEPT - I can't get the "Death" sprites to finish falling to the ground. They hang up at the very beginning of the sequence and stay there, standing frozen. I've run the texture numbers up from "2" to "40" so far, jumping by twos each time, but not happening. There are 8 "Death" graphics files, with 16 sprites on each (4 across and 4 down). If anyone can figure out the sequence, I'd be abliged. They look good though and I can run them without the "Death" sprites and it won't crash the game. Looks weird, though.

Well, from that information the correct count should be eight .

Basically, eight times one equal eight .

My guess is that you have either messed-up in the textures file, or the M Column of the unitmodel file, but that's just guessing!

DaV,

Oddly enough, going backwards as it were from the basic number of 16 to 8 actually worked on the Cavalry "Run" sprites. I tried 8 but no joy, as I said. The textures files are all good. Interesting what you say about the "M" column which is a Death_2 column. I had removed the Death_1 from unitmodel line since the other infantry didn't have one. I actually thought this same thing while walking the Dogs 1/2 an hour ago. Going to add it in and see.

Just ran three sims with various combos of column M and changes to "8" in the GFX.csv file. Still frozen dead guys.

Definitely going to have to think on this some more.

@Jack - Post the Information that you have in the L & M Columns of the unitmodel file.

Also - what is the name of the last Death file. ( i.e...Death_8 )!

DaV,

L - GFX_FR_Inf1_H_01-8_Death (French Infantry only)

M - GFX_FR_Inf1_H_01-8_Death (Same)

Last Death Graphics File - FR_Inf1_H_01-8_Death_8.dds

Note - ALL other Infantry and Cavalry unitmodel lines end with (Example) GFX_BR_Gre_H_01-8_Death (Column L) They don't have anything in column M. ALL other infantry have only 2 Death graphics files.

OK, You do know that you are using different names, correct?

One has an _8 at the end of the name, while the other one doesn't !
