Gettysburg 3Days in 7Hours

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

You are right on Born, RebBuglars 3 Days is the best example of 20/20 play. If you know anything about the Civil War, you play this game to make better decisions than the leaders of the past. Not taking Culp's Hill was a major factor in the historical results of the Rebels being unable to win. Lee was hamperd by bad intel from the beginning of his invasion. At the battle Lee was not able to get a real sense of what the tactical situation was. On the Union side Meade was getting better tactical intel from everyone. Even when Sickles blundered, Meade had enough reserves to make right out of a bad situation.
I think that is why Garniers new Mp game with Pipe Creek is very exciting because of the new ground and having to make decisions not knowing in advance what the ground is like. You have all the skills of a commander and how to deploy your troops but it is the ground that you must conquer with the enemy on it.
Had Lee been able to fight this Gettysburg battle as many time as we have, he would certainly make different decisions. Converesly Meade would also benefit from the 20/20 hindsight that we enjoy.
New maps comming out periodically will only make this game better and better in my humble opinion
Move Forward

The B&F version is exactly the same scenario, but with the addition of the DRF (Rebel) flags.

Hi, I have a question- when is the best times to hit resupply button?- is this a crucial decision or can it wait - I am not sure on this- thanks for reply  I seldom use it except in this long one- what is the best use of this and is it necessary(besides in real life of course)

This is the most tedious task with these long ones, I know of no short cuts, just oversee and supply as needed. I have this scenario ready in carryover form, three scenarios, it will be released soon. This will help address the supply micromanagement demands, in that with each new day all units will be newly supplied.

Can I also add my vote and request for a Union version of 3 Days? I realize that it's probably somewhere down the priority list, but if enough folks ask for one? (particularly those of us without the skills to be designing scenarios, much less ones as large as this one). Thanks for listening, Bob, Bristol RI

Hi, I was wondering- is there a way to start day 2 with Union in the fishhook position? I can never get that to happen- is that possible- to have day 2 begin replicating historical position? and day 3 as well too- they were still there after day 2 pounding- south got the worst of it for attacking well defended positions  - thanks

Yeah, I agree that a strict historic set up would be fun play reenacting days 2 and 3. However, for carryover scenarios there are issues connecting the three days and keeping it historic.

First Issue - Rebs attack the fishhook the second day as per historic events. Obviously a Major Victory will be capturing the Union line, pushing the Federals back. So...Why have a third day? And to make it historic they would lose what they captured, sending them back to the third day setup.

Another Issue - If it's fixed so a Reb Victory can be awarded with just capturing historic ground, a Rebel win the third day, reenacting Pickett's charge, will be a slaughter unless the player is allowed to use all his troops that day...which would wind up a non historic rendition.

These issues are why I opted for designing this present scenario this way. It's still historic, but it shows the importance of the Rebs being more successful the first day, taking the high ground, to have a chance of winning this great battle. Still, they might have been victorous the second day if the echelon attack had been coordinated better, and certain units hadn't opted out, and especially, if Longstreet had started the attack when Lee ordered...history still taunts his evasive meanderings, tiring out his troops for hours.

Adding a historic third day for me is just replicating a historic slaughter. After two days, the Rebel chances for a victory were gone. The full Union army was in place on the high ground with built up defensive positions...with superior troop numbers and much more and better artillery.

Still, I'll consider a set of scenarios along these lines, but I promised a Yank version first. ;)

Anybody ever explain why that was? I just ordered his memoirs but I suspect he'll say he had good reasons.

Hi, I read that Longstreet was waiting for Pickett- that was the delay- the height of the battle was wheat field against Sickle- get 'Gettysburg' by Col. Oates and Lt. Haskell- I am finishing it- Haskell is a great writer and was killed at Cold Harbor. Oates was very upset with Longstreet- Hood wanted to change the orders but was insisted to follow them. Oates wanted to occcupy Big Round Top and stay there instead he was ordered to attack Little R. Top where they were forced to retreat. Great battle :cheer:
