Re: Porting Over sprites from TC2M
DaV,
The Graphics files all have the .dds tag attached. No unitmodel line has a number attached at the end of any string of indicators, either ACW, NapMod or, (now), the SYW/BR-Gre Mod. They all look like what I've shown in any of the columns.
On another note - even though, (as an example), the British Grenadiers have two death files and the French Infantry have 8, they both have exactly the same number of sprites for those files, ie: the British have 128 sprites in two files and the French have 128 in 8 files. Shouldn't their textures/angles/frames numbers be the same? Interesting...
Jack B)
Okay - BIG correction - all the other infantry have "1" death file with 256 sprites on it AND the French still have "8" death files BUT they have 32 sprites on them instead of 16, as I originally stated. Good Lord! If I could count, I'd be dangerous.....

All,
and.......at long last, Artillery. Took me forever, and I still don't know why it didn't work earlier, but, 'tis done, and fairly well, too.

Hmm, they look a little bit too small, perhaps you need to slightly adjust the size of them in either the G or M Column of the unitgfx file.

Re: Porting Over sprites from TC2M
Jack - great to see all of this. The SYW is one of my great loves in terms of wargaming and military tactics. Those pics you showed last page of a column of redcoats marching through an American town looked straight out of Boston in the late 1770s
Can I ask, are these sprites packed in the new efficient way, or in the old way? If they're packed in the new way that makes them compatible with Gunship24's Nap sprites for multiplayer and I can see there that some of the cavalry especially would work for Spanish since the flattened tricorne is a fairly close representation of the Spanish hat of that time. Some of the infantry would probbaly look close to Spanish as well.

All,
DaV - Yes, they do seem a bit small when limbered up. That was how they looked over at TC2M, also. They are fine, (I think), when firing. I may mess with them a bit as you say to re-size them and see.
Tank - Yes, one of my favorite periods also. Unfortunately, they are non-packed, "old school" style sprites. I agree about the tricorn. Good eye there.

Re: Porting Over sprites from TC2M
Ah, that's a pity. I am still struggling to mix the two for MP play.
I need an SoW fairy to write a 'packing version converter program'!
Regarding DV's comment on the pic of the limbered artillery, I am not sure the guns are that small, but of course seeing them unlimbered with crew beside against other sprites would be the test. What I did notice, although it could just be a perspective thing, is that the limber and gun look to be offset behind the horse team a yard or two to the right (as you look forwards from behind them). The actual horse harness sprite and rider are exceptionally good, very crisp graphics.

Re: Porting Over sprites from TC2M
All,
So, the effects of insanity continue -
When I started this porting over business, the original intent was (a) just to see if I could do it and (b) if I could, to put together a Brigade or so of British and French and have some small battles until Alesillo finished his Spanish Succession War mod.
So much for that. I am one of those people who go "what about that?" and keep going beyond the original format. To that end, sprites ported over consist of -
British Foot
British Grenadiers
British Dragoons
British Generals
Hanoverian Foot
Hanoverian Cavalry
French Foot
French Cavalry (Blue)
French Cavalry (Grey)
French Dragoons
French German troops in French pay (Blue)
French Swiss troops in French pay (Red)(Also used for the "Wild Geese" Irish Brigade in French pay)
French Generals
Saxon Foot
Austrian Foot
Austrian Grenadiers
Austrian Kuirassiers
Austrian Dragoons (Red)
Austrian Dragoons (Green)
Austrian Dragoons (Blue)
Austrian Generals
Austrian Cavalry Generals
Austrian Artillery Officers
Austrian Artillery (Crews wearing the traditional Brown coats, like in the NapWar Mod.)
Austrian Artillery teams
Prussian Foot
Prussian Grenadiers
Prussian Kuirassiers
Prussian Dragoons
Prussian Generals
Prussian Cavalry Generals
Prussian Artillery Officers
Generic Artillery - Gun crews and Horse teams in Blue jackets which just about everyone besides the Austrians wore.
Generic Limbers
One wagon and ox-team for all sides
A zillion flags - still can't figure out the two-part ones. No big deal.
5 complete OOBs for 3 different wars. Average Army on each side is 25,000 - 30,000 each.
I may have forgotten someone but I don't think so. There are still some other sprites (Hussars) to do but they can wait for now.
I have not done any Russians........yet.
I still can't figure out two things -
Prussian, French and Austrian dead guys. They just won't fall down all the way no matter what I change.
So, I faked it and used the French-German dead for the Prussians and the Saxon dead for the French and Austrians. The Austrian and Saxon uniforms are so similar it works fine there. Close enough for the French.
I cannot get the timing right for the gun crews to animate correctly in the firing sequence. They do the loading procedure AFTER the gun has fired. So, I just have them stand there while the guns are banging away. Weird. The rest of their animation is fine.
One other odd note - the Cavalry of all types legs look weird when they charge. Not sure what that is but it doesn't detract from the game.
So, there you go. Just goes to show what you can do when you're bored enough AND love this game.
Massive Hat-Tips to Alessillo, DaVinci and RebBugler for their help and contributions, and anyone else I can't remember.

This probably has something to do with the textures.csv file.I still can't figure out two things -

This one is probably also due to the textures.csv file. If you remember way-back-when this is the file that I used to fix the units from not firing, they just used to load and repeat.I cannot get the timing right for the gun crews to animate correctly in the firing sequence. They do the loading procedure AFTER the gun has fired. So, I just have them stand there while the guns are banging away. Weird. The rest of their animation is fine.

Re: Porting Over sprites from TC2M
DaV,
Yes I do and that WAS a long time ago. As far as the dead guys go, I've gone over that .csv file so many times, and changed so much it's crazy. I'm thinking it may actually be the game engine itself, since the graphics files are not really designed for this game and might be able to only do so much. It's interesting that Alessillo did two different sets of sprites throughout this Mod. The later set (British, Hanoverian, Saxon, Swiss, and French-Germans), were set up differently within the graphics files and work perfectly, once you and I ironed out the naming/directional issues.
I did reduce the size of the Artillery gunteams. They do look better.

Re: Porting Over sprites from TC2M
I may not be understanding you on the artillery animation problem but isn't loading after firing correct? As long as the loading sequence occurs between shots being fired it works doesn't it?
Jack - would you be interested in repacking Gunships other Napoleonic sprites - his Prussians, Russians, Belgians, Brunswickers, Nassauers, etc. We can't use these in MP as the game won't run the two sprite types together
