Thanks, all the logs I've seen lately are packets that just are not arriving for what ever reason. The low level network code I use should not allow this, but it's happening somehow. We just played over an hour, 6 of us, using brig couriers and it ran great. We did what ever we could to mess it up, but it ran solid. Maybe we just didn't play long enough or maybe some redundancy that I've recently put in is working. Look for another beta patch this week. We'll keep trying until we figure it out.
Thanks, Norb.
For hour-plus, players vs players games, played without mods, we are getting about a 50 / 50 success rate. My
feeling is that messages sent via the courier window are more of an issue than couriers sent as a result of pointing and clicking on the toolbar (and couriers being set at brigade). Some games we seem to send quite a lot of the former (normally messages to other players) and sometimes each general is so involved in their own bit of the battle that communication between players is quite sporadic. To test the game, we should probably bombard other players with courier messages.
Thanks again for all the efforts on this. Playing MP with couriers and HITS is such an experience it will be great when it works reliably for everyone.

Good point. Rather than playing we should just go into a message frenzy while riding around the map a long way apart!
Seriously... that's what a test needs, unless the game also needs to be 'loaded down' with combat calculations as well.

I'm game for a test message-fest. We could set units towards each other, as long as we firmly resolved to not care about the results. Maybe we should play with bigger sides too, to load the game a bit.
We could play with the camera in a helicopter so we can watch the carnage ...

That probably won't be productive. I'm sure Norb and Co. do exactly that and don't have any crashes. I would suggest that the couriers be used as they would in any normal game. That is the acid test.

Yeah, we have sent courier messages galore, free text, custom brigade level, played hour+ games, 7+ players, and haven't had a single crash. But still hopefully this latest beta patch takes care of the rogue courier bug.

Is there an emoticon for envy ? perhaps?
I'm intrigued why we can be having such different experiences. Many, many variables, I guess. Fingers crossed for the new patch.
Off-topic - just played a scenario (Antietam 10) in SP, with the camera set at 2 yards. Couldn't see a darn thing through the corn - absolutely amazing game! I recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried HITS.
@MTG - ok, will hold off message-fests.

Little Powell, I can't remember if I saw this answer to my question, but are your crash-free games over a LAN or the internet?
Would a couple of you be willing to join our games to see the crashes we are having?
Do you guys use HITS? Can you try editing your sowgb.ini file so that plyrradius=2 and MPplyrradius=2 and let us know if you get crashes then? Maybe that magic number 2 is causing our crashes.

Yesterdays 7-player Kriegsspiel game crashed with a courier-bug despite using the latest beta patch. The game logs should be sent soon, or already were.
I suggest both Norbsoft and we players should play MP games with exact the same game settings and no mods. To have the same CPU-Load we should agree to play a
specific scenario, rather than play sandbox and hunt em down. I don't play scenarios myself, so does anybody know one that would fit well?

Yes. Log files sent (but only just now).

Good idea.

I'm not sure that is the best path to take. If there is no crash, it just means that particular scenario doesn't produce the effect. Since the problem continually occurs in random sandbox play, it would be better to stick with what works, IMHO. Or in this case, what doesn't work.
