Does anyone play this? I'm thinking about getting it, but $60 is more than I'm willing to spend right now. Is it worth it?

It looks like another game like AGEOD's Blue and the Gray. I tried SO hard to get into that game because it looks really cool. To be able move around the country, re-creating the campaign aspect of the Civil War.. But I just couldn't ever get past the first turn.. I'm usually good at figuring out strategy games, but I just couldn't ever wrap my brain around that one.

Glad you shook off that "666"

That dense of a game?

Well in that case, are there any other good strategic Napoleonic games?

I must say I really didn't enjoy how ridiculously aggressive they made the CSA in that game. Never tried as the Union but the CSA always invaded the north by early to late June 1861 and they had cavalry raids going all over the western theater.

It just seemed like the AI was programed to do things that logistically, historically, and strategically wouldn't have made sense for the south to attempt.

AGEOD's American Civil War game is superb. It's daunting at first. I actually bought it, installed it and gave up when I couldn't figure out what to do in about ten minutes time. Eventually I gave it another try and once you figure out what is going on, it's great fun.

The thing i couldn't get my head round was the page that flicked up and the instant victory cheer that followed that decided the outcome of a successful battle.

It used to send shivers down my spine hearing it, its identical to the cheers my mates let out when i put my hand in my pocket and get a round of beers at my local pub.

Its not that i'm tight but, Oh so Scary............

Exactly. I have it, but I could only ever actually really play the battle scenarios because the whole-war campaigns were just too damn complicated. AGEOD's games are amazing but there are so many units and things to deal with that it inevitably seems like when I finish a turn I'll realize that I forgot to move a couple thousand men. Plus, when it comes to grand strategy games, I prefer either a Paradox-style HoI/EU real-time system or a wargame-style you-go-I-go system. I know that the we-go style makes you have to think about what your enemy will do, but it's hard to do that when all you know is just where the enemy is, not where he's going or any details like that.

It would be worth having if you can figure out how to play it. I've read the manual once already, and I am having a hard time trying to figure it out.

So is it worth paying $60.00? No it isn't, I would have to say if you can pickup a copy between 25-45 dollars I would grab it.

Later!
