Communication for Multiplayer

This isn't exactly a game design suggestion. But for those who will want to communicate via voice chat during multiplayer, I suggest you download xfire from www.xfire.com

It uses the ventrilo voice chat service, which is way clearer then teamspeak. Plus it has an instant messenger service and you can use it to chat in game with other people. So, if me and JC are wooping up on PC and Gunfreak and norb wants to chat it up and mess with our strategy, he can without quiting the game or minimizing.

If you play any other games it keeps track of how long you have played them. Doesn't keep track of TC2M, but hopefully they will update it when this game comes out.

Or just download it now and you can use it just to IM people from the boards that have it. My name on xfire is the same as here: estabu

Take care

I figured it would be more of a cry, from losing all your men to me, than an evil laugh.

Any form of verbal communication should be discussed before hand. I personally consider it cheating. MP communication should only be allowed through the in game system. That will of course consist of couriers or chat depending on how close you are. I don't know how this can be enforced at all, but I believe that it would take away from the experience to do otherwise. All that can be done is for the people playing to decide how they want to conduct themselves before hand, and agree on honor to follow the rules.

As long as all the participants agree what can and can't be discussed there shouldn't be a problem. I agree with Norb that it shouldn't be used to give orders/information to fellow commanders that would give them an advantage over the opposing players. Knowing Norb's and his team's attention to detail, I'm sure they are/will be making sure the courier system is effective (or as effective as it should historically be)with the appropriate time delay for distance, etc.

I'll be anxious to see if the courier system functions are expanded beyond what TC2M had. I'd like to see the message graphics look more authentic when they are displayed.

That being said, I'm just sadistic enough to want to rub it in when I see my opponent's troops running in panic.

Amish John & Norb

You both bring up very good points. I am use to using it for Company of Heroes and the guys I play with have a tendency to get very animated:woohoo: I guess as long as the courier system works well, I don't think there would be any objections to only using couriers.

I don't mean to take away from the historical detail of the game, I was just offering it up as a suggestion.

Keep up the good work

I do think voice communication would be a good idea if used correctly. I'd be anxious to try it when the time comes. Is there a performance hit when using it?

You can't blame someone for wanting to come to the winning side. :P

I would also like to use voice communication in game. I know its not quite historical, but I thoroughly enjoy the comraderie of it, and the social aspect. It is one the things that makes MP better than SP in my mind.
