Well that was not expected for the first reply. Donald Duck, my my.
Though I'm a big fan of Disney classic film. But sad many Disney animators admit, they have been outfoxed by studios like Ghibli, quality of work by Ghibli is almost unbelieveable sometimes. Films by Mikoto Shinkai are also pretty amazing, though his films are normally very depressing to watch.
In the United States Disney has become less popular over the years and they've had to resort to the complete 100% CGI movie trend which hit for nearly a decade and a half here, all but a hand full of Disney films in the past decade have been drawn animation which came out in theators, most never made it to theators and were DVD exlusive releases, people lost interest in repeat films which returned to an old fairtale they already made a movie about, worse some they were so lazy as to slap II on the title insted of giving it a real title. Quality of animated features on TV has also gone down here as well. Looking at a classic Disney movie and looking at one of their newer ones they seem not to try like they used to.
Disney lost out when I refused to allow films like The Secret of Nimh be produced under their studio in fact the people who wanted to make the movie jumped ship when Disney refused. Because of this Disney has no experiance with making anything but childrens films really. Their market focuses completely on it, and they have to keep lowering their standards because of more and more restrictions on what is appropriate for children in the United States, so they take no gambles, no risk.
5 Centimeters Per Second A Shinkai film, he has what you can say a very unique art form for his films. He tries to make the backgrounds in his movies as real as possible, sometimes its scary. 1920x1080p Quality on this video link to be warned, then again gamers have good computers.
The Secret of Nimh My favorite animated film when growing up, it's more mature than most, and far better than most Disney films. It's also one of the most beautifully animated films ever to come out of the west if not a bit dark.
Moribito Guardian of the Spirit A 26 Episode TV series I purchased resently
Like 5 Centimeters Per Second I think Moribito it shows how far behind Western animaters are, 5 Centimeters being a low budget film, where as Moribito is a TV series, though a short series. We were doing so nicely in the 80s and 90s, then during the 90s very consvitive ideals really started to hurt, and by the end of the 90s good animated features and TV started to die out, by 2002 there are hardly any new good animated TV shows for kids ot watch these days, they are all mindless random episode mixes with no story, no thinking.
