One Possible Problem to "Freezing" Game

Post by Greek »

I have been playing a scenario that upon reaching a certain point "freezes" everytime (I've also had other "freezes in other sandbox and scenario battles). To date, it froze on me five times in a row at roughly the same point.

Knowing I had played one sandbox game without any freezes I tried to think back to what I had changed, as I had changed some options.

Voila! When I changed the "detail of uniforms" from "Best" back to "High", where I had had it, and reloaded the battle that had kept freezing, it ran to completion. I've started another battle and, so far, it has not frozen once.

Could be just dumb luck at this time, but try it.

Yes! Everyone must get familiar with the OPTIONS pageS

Uniform settings:

1. Lo-res basic ( one uniform per side infantry )
2. "Good" Lo-res all uniforms ( a good basic FPS saving setting ) ;)
3. "Better" ( NOT imo ) Hi-res basic ( one uniform )
4. "Best" Hi-res all uniforms ( great for high end machines and/or smaller fights )

OK, that makes sense to me. So you had a saved game on "High", but changed your options to "Best" and loaded it. That caused the freeze?

Close, I played two sandbox games to completion and started multiple other games (just playing around so purposely did not finish any of them). Although I did not finish those other battles at no time did the system ever freeze while the uniform was set to High.

BEFORE starting another game I changed the uniform option to Best, and the games, multiple games, after that would then freeze. I could never play any of them to completion.

I then changed the uniform back to High and then loaded a saved game, one that had been freezing on me, in fact five times in a row, and the game then played to completion with no freezes.

I have now started another battle and so far, with uniform to High, it has not frozen.

Might all just be conincidence, but when one game (battle)with uniforms set to Best keeps freezing upon loading the last good save for it, and it happens five times in a row, and then I change the setting for uniform to High, reload, and it runs to completion I have to think something may be at work there. 8^)

Try playing on Good and see how that acts.

Great testing! I believe that what happens is that you save the game on high, which has more uniforms, then you load it with best and all those uniforms are not there and the code needs to handle this. I'll put it in for a fix. Thank you.

I'm sorry, I think I'm still not being clear. To simiplfy,

I started the game with uniforms from the main menu set to "best". The game froze on me.

I reloaded the game from the last save and it froze on me again, roughly the same place. I did this three more times, with the uniforms still set to "best" and it froze on me all three times at roughly the same point.

I then left the game, went to the main menu and changed the option for uniforms to "high" and reloaded the same saved game....and the game scenario played to completion! No freezing. In other words, at "high" the game does not freeze, at least on my computer, while when set to "best" it does.

This was repeatable with other scenarios and sandbox games, at least for me. Hope this helps.
