The Peach Orchard -- hardest of the Brigade battles?

Been trying different things with this one, but it is very hard to do. Have advanced on battle line, but while I deal with the Federal skirmishers, about four federal regiments usually rush the victory location.

Just tried running the whol brigade around to the right (around the left flank of the skirmishers), but no love with that. I managed to get all four regiments and the General to the vicinity of the crossroads, but could not get control of it -- there always seemed to be one regiment or another of federals who were close enough to contest the spot.

So, any ideas on strategies for this one? It would seem that a rapid advance is called for, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Still experimenting with this one --I found that if I run all four regiments straight towards the victory location, using one to charge the Federal skirmishers, I can usually brush aside the skirmishers and even rout one or two of the leading federal regiments; however, still can't seem to get control of the victory location or get there in time to assure sufficient points for a major victory (3000 points in 30 minutes with a 100 point per minute victory location). I feel I must be overlooking something here, but not sure what it could be. I have asked other units for support, but the results have been mixed. Also, if I wait for other units to help clear the area, then I would only have about ten turns on the victory location.

Hrmmm. Try, try again.

MV Score will be lowered to 2500 with patch. Designer rewrote this one after we score-tested it.

Nothing rash or gamey is needed to win this one. But swiftly engage the enemy and push towards the VP, as per historic events. Good generaling is the key here.

Edit: Score MAY be lowered...better shoot for 3000, which I can't get yet EITHER.

Still can't get this one, either.

I think I did better pre-beta patch on this one, too.

Yes, that does say 2:12 for the time of completion

Very nice! What tactics did you use?

Charged the skirmish line, bum rushed and charged anyone at the objective that got within a reasonable distance, stayed behind fences when I was too far away to charge, I never just accepted a head on infantry fight as I had regiments in position to maul the flanks of the enemies regiments as they came at me. I also accepted the fact that I could not effectively charge the artillery and just took out the ones with infantry fire that were going to rip me apart sitting at the objective. After that, I held the objective with the necessary force and ran off into the woods towards the wheat field to get the extra necessary points.

If that ain't braggin' rights, don't know what is. :woohoo:

Guess we don't have to patch it, you've paved the way...just kiddin' other generals, don't dis my karma. Still, what an accomplishment, thought 3000 was impossible for this one...SALUTE. This might get you on top of the first SOWGB Generals' list. Congrats...

I can now top it!

I rushed all four straight up the road, brushing aside the skirmishers and begging for infantry and artillery support on my left flank. For once, the Federals didn't rush a brigade to the crossroads, allowing me to outflank and destroy the couple of regiments there. I then pushed EVERYONE into the crossroads and hunkered down to wait for Woffard and company.

I held the victory location at least 25 minutes of the scenario. Final score . . . 3357!!!

Still felt like an aligning of the stars kind of thing, though. Glad to have this out of the way -- now if I can get Jackson to complete without crashing . . . .

It can be done. I'm still wiping the sweat from my brow, but I just beat this scenario with a 3144.

Same thing as MrSpkr, the Union forces didn't quickly contest the crossroads and I gained the VP about 4 minutes in. At one point they moved the artillery battery up from the barn and crippled one of my regiments with canister. In retaliation, I rushed the guns and captured them all.

Once I saw my score, did the math, and figured that I was going to break the 3000 mark, I got very conservative and stayed on the VP. However, I could have moved down the Millerstown Road and charged the Union guns there too. They weren't completely unprotected, but I bet I could've gotten them. If that would have happened, I probably could have approached 3500 on this scenario.

Again, it's doable, but HARD.
