"Double-time" order

Post by pcelt »

Just a quick comment /question re this command.
I have only just noticed (shows my observation level) that when ordering regiments to double time ,a further click on this command will bring the regiment back to normal speed------but when the order is given to a brigade ,reclicking the command does not reset brigade to normal speed.
a) Am I right re this observation ?

b) If so is there any reason why a brigade should not be able to respond in similar way?

Thanks for any insights.

a) Yes.

b) Two. The Moe Shuffle and not enough room on the toolbar.

It was found in TC2M that if you alternated the run and walk command fairly rapidly that the unit would never get fatigued. You could cover long distances and arrive fresh as a daisy. Watching them move as you did this reminded folks of how Moe Howard would sometimes move in the 3 Stooges clips.

War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.

right explanation but wrong derivation. The move was discovered by one of the first team. A guy who went by the screen name Ivanmoe.

1 thing I noticed about movement thats changed between the 2 games.
Regimental movement along roads, when turning the rear of the regiment swings to the new facing. I loaded up tc2m cause I didnt remember that happening. Sure enough they pivot correctly.
Perhaps go back and see whats changed in the code and do a minor correction?

Is it proper that you can select double speed even when the rgt is standing to increase the speed of wheeling and reforming? I am not sure this tires the unit but of course it should.

Again, i think the manouvering speeds in these cases are already too fast as it is. Too fast wheeling and changing formations imho. I hope we can mod that in the future...I wanted to take this opportunity to ask a question: For those who have low rigs, is there a setting that lets you choose what % of men you want displayed in regiments? I figure if you make the rgt smaller there are less sprites and the increased FPS gain could be counterbalanced with an increased drawing distance, no?

There is not so much a setting, but there is a way to mod it. It will be in the sdk.
