Status and other issues

I was playing an MP game last night with a buddy. We went through a number of scenarios. We ended up playing HITS, and it was quite a challenge.
A few issues crept in:
- I could NEVER get any general to give me any status information in any scenario. Is this normal?
- We played the Rose Woods scenario. There are 3 objectives: Little Round Top, Devils Den, and the Wheat Field. I could not order any unit to any of these objectives as they are not listed. I'd love to have a command that said "Go to this objective and defend it". Right now, I'm not sure how to order a unit to defend an objective.
- When I was a brigade commander, I get orders telling me to move to the indicated position on the map. But I don't see any indication on the map at all. The one I remember this happening in was McPherson's Ridge, but it did happen in others.
One wish: when you're sending a courier message, it would sure be nice to have some indentation so you can easily tell who is a subordinate of a commander.
I'd also like to be able to read all of the messages I have sent. (I have a short memory
