Request for reduced sprites per unit mod
I know it’s not possible yet without the SDK but can I please beg/Request that someone will make a mod that will reduce the number of sprites representing infantry regiment/cavalry by half especially if possible for all the scenarios.
I have just been trying to play the Peach Orchard scenarios and even though I have a high end system I was getting around 4FPS With sprites reduced by half the whole game would run so much smother for so many of us and still look fine.
I’m always in awe of what the modders do they did great things with TC2M I’m really hoping someone will take this idea up.
Norb would it even be possible to release some kind of optional patch that would reduce sprite numbers by half it would make such a difference in performance and make the game much more enjoyable for many of us. Not a criticism of the game in any way I love it I just want it to run smoothly for me.
Thanks

Re: Request for reduced sprites per unit mod
I pointed out this issue in my thread as well... more than a mod, since this is a critical factor for mid-low end rigs, this should be made a real setting within the game, exactly like the uniform sprite quality and other vid settings.
I think a mod will suffice but it would be best as preferences feature.

Jubal Early - Do you want to try out an OOB that doesn't have any artillery, I think that you will get better FSP ?

Re:Request for reduced sprites per unit mod
Thanks Davinci but I can play the sandbox games with artillery and its playable but it’s the scenarios that I really want to get into and they totally kill my FPS due to the large numbers of sprites. For some reason the Peach Orchard one slowed me down to a crawl.
Re:Request for reduced sprites per unit mod
Well, it appears that there is going to be a delay of one to two weeks before the release of the SDK .
This is really starting to piss me off, I really can’t play the Sand-Box games un-modded, I didn’t buy the game to play on-line , so now I’m stuck with waiting for a freaking manual that I’m not going to read!
It’s like playing BraveHeart – running, melee, running, melee, I hate when people treat you like a stupid child , you can’t do this until I allow you to do it!!!!!
It reminds me of our government !
Back-on-topic
Can you tell me how many programs you are running in the back-ground?
I just tried the scenario that you are having problems with, and I’m getting a constant 11-13 frames per second, it only dropped down too nine two times, for a few seconds.
I looked up the Computer that you have, and your graphics card is better than the one that I have, so the problem has to be with what else you are doing, while the game is playing!
Check the background tasks, by using the Taskbar while the game is playing, and go to the processes , it is the second tab from the left.

Hi Davinci Im getting the following
57 Procedures
Cpu Usage 28-29%
Physical Memory 70%
57 Procedures
Cpu Usage 28-29%
Physical Memory 70%
Re:Request for reduced sprites per unit mod
Jubal, release as many resources as you can. Download a small utility called End It all 2 and run it before you run the game. It will close all the applications with a single click (and you can protect the non-system apps and services you want to keep running).

I have 3GB – of ram, and you have 4GB – so compare the usage here!
I’m running the game at the following:
Processes – 40
CPU – 27%
Physical Memory 74%
Now, I'm usually only running approx. 36 Processes - If I remember before starting a game, I will usually go into the Processes and turn off things like..
Adobe - sometimes this will pop up, depending...
FlashPlayer - sometimes if I were online looking at videos, this will be on!
Taskeng - this will continue to turn it-self back on!
Windows Media etc - I always have to turn this off.....
Now, a lot of new computers will have a bunch of programs that are running in the background, which has nothing to do with nothing, so you have to turn them off.
Take into consideration that turning them off – will not do any damage to your computer, you are just telling the computer that you do not want them running, if you are not using them.
The programs will still be there, they are just sitting idle , sort of like the light in the attic, if you turn it off, it is still there, it is just not burning. If you need to go into the attic, well, then you turn it back on!
Do a google search - for items that can be turned off using the Operating System that you are using!

OK, I can’t really tell you which programs that you need to turn off, it is really a trial by error approach, and it also depends on what you do with the computer.57 Procedures

The first partial draft of the SDK manual, written late last fall, runs over 100 pages. It was put aside so we could concentrate on getting the game to release state. This initial draft has to be reviewed, edited, and corrected to reflect all of the changes in the game since last fall. There are literally 3 people on the planet who know enough about the games internal workings to do even parts of the editing etc. Right now all three are working on getting the bug fix patch completed, tested, and released. As soon as we get the bug fix patch out, then the SDK goes to the top of the priority list.Well, it appears that there is going to be a delay of one to two weeks before the release of the SDK .
