It definitely worth buying thus my desire to have this game but due to the DRM , I am holding , consider this

1) What happend is my Hard Disk crash and I did not deactivate then what happen , I lost the game forever ??

2) And " touch wood " if the company goes out of business , then the game is lost as well ?

I don't earn much and I do not have the luxury of buying few codes ...

You should buy the game as in my opinion Norb and the guys would help you alot faster with your problem regarding if ur hard crashes or something because they are their own company...in the case with matrix games they sell a bunch of different games and it is much harder to get a hold of them when you have a problem....My hard drive crashed and im waiting for them to give me my code back to the game i bought about a year and a half ago and it feels as if i have gotten the run around...Norb and his team would never take as long to respond as it has matrix games

(1) Your codes are still fine. You would have to have recorded your code somewhere else so that if your HD crashed, you would still have the code string. You can email us explaining the situation and the code can be reset so you can activate your new install when you get the rest of your system rebuilt. It's no big deal.

(2) If you don't deactivate, it is good as long as the rest of your system is. The code servers are actually managed by another company that has been in business doing software DRM for over 20 years. Even if all of NSD was beamed to another planet, the code servers would still be up and running.

1. We handle this through our support email. No one is going to lose their game.
2. The activation company is not us, so they are still there if NSD stops. NSD is a private company, there is no way it's going out of business, it's all virtual, I've stated that before that happens I would remove the DRM.

We addressed every major argument against DRM. You can read about it on these forums. No one has been left hanging. Our DRM is less that what you had when you installed Windows.

EDIT - Jim beat me to it! :)

From what I understand, norb and the team have mechanisms for dealing with lost or broken activation codes and such.

And if they do go out of business at some point, I have no doubt that they will look at such contingencies and patch out the activation code or work something out with Digital River. I mean, look at TC2M. When they realized they were not going to expand beyond the last title, norb opened up the maps and virtually everything else to modding so that we got out more enjoyment out of the game.

While don't know norb and the MMG and NSD teams personally, they have my utmost trust and I have absolutely no doubt that they will make good with any consumer of their products. All in all, I don't think you have much to worry about.

Cheers!

I wrote every line of code for both companies and I was the Project Manager of all games for both companies. The only difference being in MMG I ran these decisions past my partner first, with NSD we've already discussed our approach and it's no different than MMG. Had MMG not broken up when it did, we would have kept it locked for longer as we did expansions. But since it broke up it just accelerated what we had already decided.

Maybe one day UNICEF will get into the game developing business. Until that happens, DRM is a fact of life, it is too much of a risk to an independent developer to not have DRM.

I'm sure this issue was debated amongst the team and they made a decision that best fit their needs, and as the developer of the game that is their legal and ethical right to do so.

The team has made no attempt to hide the fact that there is DRM and they leave it up to your discretion whether or not to buy the rights to use their intellectual property. If you do not like the terms on which the product is offered it is your right to decline.

I must add this following disclaimer though: I myself am a programmer/designer in my free time from being a teacher of math and computer science. I write and design cell phone applications and lightweight business applications to sell, and I create everything from the ground up. Though I sort of burnt myself out and have not developed anything since last summer, but that may give you an idea as to why I view things the way I do.

Thought I would add my 2 pennies :)
