SoWGB taking 5-8 minutes to load.

I am beyond stumped. Running SoWGB on Dell XPS 9000 , Win 7 Home Pre 64bit, Intel core i7 920, 3 GB ddr3 tri channel, Nvidia 240 GT (april 12th drivers), DX 11, Nod32 ESET anti virus, Win power settings set to performance, visual options set to performance...computer is 5 weeks old from the factory.

Launching SoWGB is taking between 5-8 minutes before main screen. I have check sum'd, scan disked, defragged, shut down 99 percent of win 7's "junk", updated all drives, dxdiag...done every thing a tech guy like me knows. I run crysis, WoW, Flight Sim X, Arma II, Modern Warfare, Rise of Flight...all of these run like liquid glass.

HELP!!

Respectfully

The main screen does take some time to load (about 15 seconds), but 5-8 minutes sounds like a really long time. Hard to tell what that could be.. I would first make sure everything is closed down in the background (anti-virus etc.) before you start the game. Then just to rule it out, try re-installing the game.

That is too long. It does take a long time to load and that's why Jim had me throw in that loading screen, so you know it's working. But 5-8 minutes is crazy! Unless you have some sort of resident shield running in the background, I can't make sense of it.

Thanks for the response Norb.

I did a full reinstall and check sum...game runs very smooth after the intro screen though.

My screen is completely black when I'm waiting. No sound, no screens, nothing. Is there a intro movie or loading screen I'm supposed to see?

could DX 11 be an issue?

Are you running the beta version? If not you probably should try it.

Have not tried the Beta. I would rather wait for the patch to go live before I throw a Beta patch into the mix, to many variables get added in then.

Note: After Norbs post, I did notice a Cyberlink DVD Resident program running. I shut that down. Going to try a few more tests with different changes.

I think I may have found it, thanks to Norb. 1 little cyberlink power dvd resident program was running. I shut that program down and it appears to have been the reason.

Norb, would you have an explaination why this resident program would have caused SoWGB to "hang" like that? I'm just curious.

Could be some kind of conflict between the exe and the cyberlink program. It was trying to take priority over the game. I don't like resident programs period. I use something called "end it all" to close out of everything before I play any game. You can find it here: http://www.docsdownloads.com/Tier1/enditall.htm

I do not know why that would cause issues. I've been playing a little bioshock and it's taking 15 minutes to load a saved game on my computer. I finally got sick waiting and I alt-tabbed out. It seems that windows was presenting a dialog in the background asking me if I wanted to change my color scheme. That is why it was taking so long, waiting for that dialog to time out.

The loading screen is only in the beta, so you would not see it yet. We are going to go through another beta patch here in a little bit before we go "official". I suggest that you install our beta, it fixes a few vital CTDs.
