Courier orders not being executed - possible bug(s)

I've been playing the Corps tutorial recently, and each time I've run into some odd behavior when sending courier messages. It doesn't happen every time I issue a message, but is happening frequently enough to be annoying.

I'm playing on the normal difficulty setting, and have the beta1 patch installed.

I'll issue an order for BG Wright to move his div to the left flank of O.O. Howard. I set the time to execute as the current time. The courier hops on his horse and dutifully rides to General Wright. Then nothing happens. No troops moving, no activity whatever.

Putting my debugging hat on, I starting trying various things. I discovered that if I first TC of General Wright, then unTC him, and then dispatch the same order he will execute my command immediately.

It's like the AI is sleeping, and by toggling the TC flag on & off, the AI then wakes up and goes to work.

In the same tutorial, I sent a message to the commanding General(whose name escapes me right now) of the 3rd div, whose div is waiting in Gettysburg. I ordered him to my left flank, telling him to use roads.

He dutifully brought his division to my left flank, but did not use the roads. All of his soldiers used the backyards of all the townspeople instead.

Has anyone else noticed behavior like this? Is it possible to play this game without having to TC?

Maybe your messenger got captured....... or maybe Wright just doesn't like you.

If it isn't a bug I can think of half a dozen reasons why people don't do what you tell them to in this game. Ain't war grand?

This may have been fixed in the beta2 release. In the readme, I see this:

Couriers no longer arrive but fail to deliver messages.

That may be what I was experiencing. I'll install the beta2 patch tonight and see if that fixes it.

Still loving this game. For me, the courier system is becoming my favorite part of the game. Being able to concentrate on the strategy and letting my subordinates do the work is a lot more fun than I thought it could ever be! :cheer:

What I think really goes on is that we offer so many features that it's impossible for us to catch every combination in testing.

One more thing I noticed in the same tutorial, is that sometimes the message recipient will move toward the area that I ordered him to, but his unit(s) do not follow.

But if I simply click on one of the formation buttons(like column) without TC them, they(that general's units) will suddenly spring to life and start moving immediately to their general's position.

I'll see if this continues once I get the beta2 patch installed.

I'm very happy to report that the beta2 patch has fixed this behavior. Very nice! :cheer:

You mean the courier problem I suppose. The problem you mentioned about general moving and units not following should be limited to DIV commanders (It's in my a bit of thinking thread). I dont think it's been fixed, there was no mention in the changelog of 1.01b2.

Yes, the problem that I believe is fixed with the beta2 patch is the courier not delivering the orders.

The problem with the units not following the general may still exist. I didn't have enough time last night to see if that was still an issue.
