Reenacting question

Guys, I think there might be a few reenactors here

I am a Councilman for my Borough, and I am thinking of setting up a CW re-enacting event for our park. My idea would be to have a group of reenactors come in and set up a living history camp for a weekend. Maybe camp for Friday and Saturday night. We are located in Eastern PA.

However, I have no idea how you set one of these events up. What are the expectations from the reenactors? What facilities do they require? Maybe most importantly, do they charge to come in and do this? I have to get this approved by Council and if there is a cost associated, then I'm probably SOL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what level of authenticity you are considering, but here is a site name that includes the majority of authentic living historians throughout the nation. It would be a good place to start if you are interested in a "Living History" event as opposed to a reenactment: The Authentic Campaigner. Do a web search and you will find it quite easily.

Also, there are several other websites out there of varying quality that will be of some help.

I've done a number of these. When I was stationed in VA, my Re-enactor Co. would do what we called a Camp of Instruction in downtown Fredericksburg. Our soldiers didn't really expect much. It was really for two purposes - Recruitment and Public Awareness. Yoou'll need room to drill. If you are going to do Firing Demos, you will need to notify local Law Enforcement. Was never a big deal for us. We had several police officers in our Company. The land usually belonged to someone already, but if its City property, you'll need a permit. That equals money. The only thing we really needed was a porta-john, (more money), and that only if we were going to stay the night. Depending on location, you might be able to use local facilities. Also, fire permits, (even more money), if it's city land. Cooking and whatnot. Water maybe? We brought our own.
I've done some of these out here in CA, too. Roughly the same stuff to deal with. More Liberal retards in the way, but managable.
