How do I host an MP game with an RCA cable modem, (Comcast) Model #DCM425?

Thanks,

The same way you would with any kind of internet connection. The port settings are determined by your router. See the MP manual in this forum to learn how to forward a port on your router.

Just like LP said. I'm using roughly the same equipment right now to host.

My Modem is directly connected to my computer. There is no router, or is there. I'm not to Wi Fi/broadband literate.

Thanks,

Greg

Then you'll want to get a router. It's more secure to have a router anyway. If you don't have any laptops and you just have the one desktop that connects to the internet, you can get a regular non-wifi router. Then you can set it up to forward the port. I recommend a Linksys or Netgear because they are the most common models and easiest to forward ports.

The modem may already be a router. If you open up a dos prompt and type in ipconfig and hit enter and your ip starts with a 192. then the modem is acting as a router. If it's something else, then it probably isn't.

My IP starts with 76 so it looks like I'm off to router land.

Greg

Yes, I agree with LP and think that's important. Software firewalls can only do so much, you really want a hardware router/firewall between you and the world.
