The focus of this series is to portray the chaos and confusion of the fight for the Wheatfield.

This series follows the action of Brig Gen Joseph B Kershaw South Carolina brigade on July 2nd 1863. On the afternoon of the second day of the battle of Gettysburg, Kershaw's brigade of McLaw's Division was ordered to attack the federal salient held by troops of MG Daniel Sickles III Corps. His brigade started up the Emmitsburg road to attack the Peach Orchard but eventually shifted their attack to the east towards Rose's Woods, the Stony Hill, and finally the Wheatfield.

What is unique about these scenarios is they are all carryover. You must conserve your forces if you want to have an effective fighting force by the end. You also must achieve a Major Victory in each scenario to advance to the next. They start out easy, but get tougher as your casualties mount.

GBK01-July2-The Stony Hill (C-Brig) - You are ordered to attack up the Emmitsburg road, but the attack seems to be shifting to the east.

GBK02-July2-Caldwell Counter Attacks (C-Brig)
- You have taken the Stony Hill, but Caldwells division is mounting for a counter attack.

GBK03-July2-Take back the Wheatfield (C-Brig)
- You have been pushed back to the Stony Hill but you must take back the ground you worked so hard to obtain.

GBK04-July2-The Valley of Death (C-Brig)
- You now control the Wheatfield but it is getting dark and the federals have brought in more reinforcements.

Hope you enjoy. Feedback is always appreciated. :)

Hope you enjoy. Let me know if you can make it the whole way and have enough men for the last scenario. The last time I played it I had about 700 men left at the end. :)

I'd be interested to know how many men you guys end up with.

I'm revising the 3rd scenario. It just does not play very historical since the Union brigades of Burbank and Day did very little to repulse the rebels in the Wheatfield (which is surprising because they were two huge brigades, pretty much outnumbering the rebels at that point). Historically, as soon as the advanced, they started receiving devastating flank fire from Bennings brigade in Devils Den and didn't do much after that. Currently in the scenario, they sweep through the Wheatfield destroying every rebel regiment in their path! :laugh:

I'll have the updated version posted shortly.

Edit: Ok, download updated. Made #3 more historically accurate and winnable. :)

If you haven't gotten to that one yet, just re-download and overwrite your current mod.

Hi LP, just finished the series, ended up with 641 men.

I could have conserved more men, but the boys just wanted to keep fighting and push those dam yankees all the way back to Washington. :woohoo:

Lost about 1470 good men :( , but inflicted more than 3100 union casualties.

GENERAL: I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of my command in the battle

Scenario#---Men left---Score---Casualties---Union Losses

____1............1778.........3537......410...............840
____2............1311.........4418......458...............906
____3............1185.........5282......126...............630
____4............641...........1933......476...............770

I remain, sir, most respectfully, your obedient servant,

Joseph B. Kershaw
brigadier general

Always enjoy a good brigade battle and the carryover series added an extra depth to battlefield tactics.

Enjoyed immensely, keep them coming.

Respectfully,

Sentry

The first scenario is fun, but freezes as time expires. Did it three times in a row. I have to restart the PC to get everything running again.

For some reason, the website isn't allowing me at attach a save.

Hi Little Powell.

I love your Scenario's. I have one question about this though. I was told a month or so ago that scenario's cannot be created to carry over. For instance if I wanted to play the historical scenario's (the edit you did, and posted much earlier), can I tie those together to carryover as well?

I'm just trying wrap my ahead around how you were able to do this.

Cheers...and love your edits.

Very strange. Maybe you can just copy/paste the contents of your sowgb.log file and we can take a look.

Also try re-installing the scenarios. I can't imagine what could cause a freeze at that point. Maybe it's trying to create the carryover file and it can't.. Hopefully your log will help me narrow it down.

Thanks mikesla for the kind words. Take a look at the scenario.ini for my scenarios. You must have a carryover=1 in the init section to create the carrover file. For example, here's the init section from scenario 1:

[Init]
type=sp
map=2_DD_RT
Weather=1
StrategicAI=0
StartTime=17:00:00
Carryover=1

That will create the carrover file. Also, if you want to require the player to get a major victory before they can advance to the next, you have to have this in the Endmajwin section

[EndMajWin]
carryover=1
screen=End
grade=1000
headline=MAJOR VICTORY!
article=EndMajorSuccess

For the next scenario in your series, you will need this in the init section so it will carryover from the previous scenario:

[Init]
type=sp
map=2_DD_RT
Weather=1
StrategicAI=0
StartTime=17:40:00
CarryOverFrom=GBK01-July2-The Stony Hill (C-Brig)
carryover=1

CarryOverDead=1

Hope this helps!
