Hi guys. I bought the game last week because my job finally provided me with a laptop and my home computer is a Mac. I was wondering if there are any plans to improve the tutorials? To be frank, the tutorials about artillery, divisional command, and corp command are pretty lame. But other than that, I am in awe of the game. I was also wondering why I have to complete some CSA scenarios to be able to play USA scenarios and vice versa. Thanks,

Alex

Sorry that you're not a fan of those tutorials. There are no plans to improve them at this time. I personally think the Division tutorial is a really fun scenario.. Got my butt kicked the first couple times in testing, those yanks are relentless. :)

Your second question, that is part of the Carryover design. The scenarios that you have to complete to unlock another one carryover the casualties from the previous.

First, I think I have a fundamental disconnect with what you folks are considering a "tutorial." The idea of a tutorial is to help someone learn how to play a game and the division and corp tutorials don't seem to provide any meaningful instruction. For all intents and purposes, those are practice scenarios, not tutorials. Second, I understand that there is a "carryover" design. What I am questioning is the logic of tying Union scenarios to previous Confederate scenarios and vice versa? Why should what I face as a Yank be dependent on how well I did as a Reb? That's my confusion. Why are there carryover scenarios that have prerequisite scenarios for the other side? Third, what is Karma and why is my Karma -2?

I see your point about the tutorials. Well, the division and corps tutorials are taking into consideration that you know how to maneuver a regiment, you know how to maneuver a brigade, you have a good understanding how the game works and how to move your guys around, now use that knowledge to play with a lot more guys... At least that was my take on it. There really isn't anymore instruction required once you can handle a brigade.. After that, it's about tactics and figuring out your personal command style.

Carryover - I understand your confusion.... All I can say is that it was designed that way.. Some people might love it, others might hate it. But either way, it'll feel pretty awesome when you've beaten all of them and get your general promotion. :)

Karma - I guess someone pressed your thumbs down button. I'm not even really sure what it means.. it's kind of silly IMO... :)

Powell,

1. Tutorials. I guess, mainly what I was looking for with the divisional/corp tutorials was a) a brief walkthrough of the courier system and b) a brief tutorial on how to effectively manage more than 1 brigade/1 battery OR how to do it all at once. I get where you are coming from, but I have no clue, functionally, how the whole courier system works.

2. Carryover. Is there any thought to modifying this in the future to make it function in a logical manner? I see two ways this might be done - #1 - tie in the Union carryover to only union scenarios OR #2 - make each scenario playable as both sides.

I hope this doesn't come off as whining.

1. Yeah, the courier system is a whole different animal. It really just takes experimenting with each command and seeing what they do. Marching Through Georgia is the courier expert on the team, and he'd be better to help you with that.

He actually has a great AAR posted here that acts as a good tutorial:

2. It's very unlikely a change like that will be made. BUT, that could be made into a mod quite easily. The Historical Scenarios are already available for download as a mod with carryover completely disabled. All it would take is a few simple edits to the scenario.ini files.

Tutorials - I will take a look @ Marching Through Georgia's AAR, but it just seems like something that could be addressed in a tutorial. I suspect that as time goes on, this complaint will continue to exist. Maybe a way to avoid that complaint is to also unlock the divisional tutorial for the demo - then people wouldn't think - "the two playable tutorials seemed to teach me stuff, logic dictates the others do too.

Carryover - Glad to hear its doable but man, I'm lazy. Lazy lazy lazy. Modding is for people with more time on their hands who know computer language. Not me!

I just took a little look at the link you posted. I think that needs to be reposted in the Command School and made into a persistant thread.
