Uniform changes

All,

This is kind of a follow-on thread to Cleaburn's "Remixing Uniforms" post.

Since I discovered I could run the "Medium" uniform settings, I have been slightly bugged by the Federal troops in shirtsleeves-06 uniforms. In my "Mods" section I changed the uniform numbers in the "UnitGlobal" file and that removed almost all of them. To remove the rest, do I need to change out the 06 uniforms in the "UnitModel" file? I'm guessing that's it but would like to be sure first before I do so.

Thanks.

Jack – you can try this!

You really do’t have to mess with the unitglobal file at all, everything can be done with the Unitmodel fle.

Looking at a default unitmodel.csv file – so as to keep the same line numbers as this example!

Line 73 – USPR_USA_Inf_06_NCO – this is the information that is in the Column A section.

Line 89 – USPR_USA_Inf_06_Private – also in the Column A section.

Line 90 – USPR_USA_Inf_06_Private_s – also Column A – the _s - means smaller size unit.

Now to change this uniform into the 04 uniform – requires just three edits – using the Copy & Paste feature.

Note – you do not want to copy and paste the whole line – just Columns B – thru – M .

Line 84 – Copy and Paste Columns B-M – over line 73 – Columns B-M

Line 84 – Copy and paste Columns B-M – over line 89 – Columns B-M

Line 85 – Copy and Paste Columns B-M – over line 90 – Columns B-M

Basically – this is what you are doing – the Default Line 73 – is told to load a NCO officer that doesn’t fire a weapon – you are switching this Officer with another uniform that does load a weapon.

You are also telling the game to load uniform 04 – every time it try’s to load uniform 06 .

This will override anything that is listed in the unitglobal file.

DaV,

So, ran through all the possiblities, changed everything around several times and always ended up with at least 2-3 Federals in shirtsleeves in almost all battalions. Couple of CTDs also.
Anyway, best I can figure, if one doesn't change the SDK version of unitmodel and/or unitglobal, the program will always add in some 06 Federal uniforms. I won't change that as it will mess up the MP compatibility, I think.

Good try though.

The game crashed – I ran the program in my head, and didn’t have a Crash-to-Headtop – so why would it crash in the game?

Thinking…..

Hey, were you trying the add the changes to a mod ?

The game will not load files that are in the SDK – that is a separate folder, so you would have to add the Three lines that you amended – to the mod of chose.

Basically, I was using the SDK lines to point you in the right direction about which file lines to change. Once you changed them, you would then Copy and Paste the three lines that you changed into a mod.

The game would\should read those files instead of the default ones.

If you loaded the whole file, these would override any changes that you had with a mod, so that is probably what is causing the CTD .

If you have a particular mod that you are trying to add this to, tell me what it is, and I’ll make the changes to see what is going on!

Almost forgot – if the changes were made correctly, the game should not display any of those units, there is nothing that is calling for them to be displayed, other than the unitmodel file!

DaV,

Roger that. Instead of "cut and paste," I just edited the existing lines to show as 04 Fed uniforms instead of 06 Fed uniforms. Edited the NCO line and all three 06 lines in the logistics/unitmodel folder in my "Mods" file. BTW there is a 3rd 06 line, not just 2.
BUT - while typing this reply I think I figured out why 06 uniforms keep showing up. Lines 90 and 91 have more informational columns in them, (i.e: "death_3" for example). As reading back through your post, I noticed I was editing more columns then you said to replace. Will go back and edt again, removing the extra columns. Will advise if that works.

DaV,

Have tried all possible combinations of either editing or cut and pasting. There always is 2-3 06 uniforms in each battalion of "normal" federals - not Zouaves or Iron Brigade types. Most go away, but not all. Doesn't make sense. The unitmodel changes should fool the computer into loading the uniforms like you said and it does, but only up to a point. Odd.

Oh well, just gonna leave them in for know. Thanks for the help.

Jack - My Bad!

Check out the ( Unitglobal ) - USPR_USA_Inf_09_Private - this will also load uniform 6.

That should solve the problem!
