Alpheus Williams alone on the Culp Farm (PART 3)

This is the area of the salient where the 27th Indiana was positioned. It was hit on its front and left flank for over 20 minutes without wavering. Note the blue bodies scattered as they began to pull back. The rebs pursued them every step.

The rebels sweep over the Culp Farm, stepping on the bodies of over 1500 federals. The federals can be seen in the distance withdrawing across the creep, turning every now and then to deliver a volley.

Alpheus Williams Division crosses the creek and takes up positions on the opposite side, awaiting the arrival of John Geary's Division. A counter attack is being planned.

This is the situation. Alpheus Williams Division is pulling back with heavy losses. John Geary's Division is coming up via the Hanover road.
