noob unit status question

I am having trouble figuring out a few unit status things. Am I missing something:

(1) Most important, is there a way to tell whether you have Taken Charge of a sub-unit. It seems to just be a toggle switch with no visual indication of whether it's turned off or not. There has to be a way to tell, right?

This is making the game difficult so far. I have found myself wanting to take charge all the time because my units tend to otherwise frequently do their own thing, which may include suddenly hauling out of the line in the middle of combat. This happened over and over in the first scenario. But I don't always know whether to hit the toggle or not because I don't see any visual representation of whether I have taken the unit over or not. Am I missing something?

(2) How can I tell an artillery's limbered or unlimbered (or limbering or unlimbering) state? How do I know whether arty has accepted my limber or unlimber order?

Thanks for any help.

1) When the TC button is highlighted.

2) Check the limbering/unlimbering icon in the central island.

Thanks, ADukes. I will look for the limbering icon.

But on the TC button highlighting, are you talking about the TC button on the unit orders panel, or is there another one? Because I didn't see the one on the unit orders panel highlight when I pressed it, and never noticed it highlighted later. I tried pressing it repeatedly, but didn't get any feedback.

The High-Lighted button is not going to be very drastic in changing the shade of yellow.

Focus your eyes on the Plus and Minus icons on the Taskbar – the ones that show if the units are attached to the brigades. Once you are familiar with how they look, you will have a better understanding of the different colors of yellow.

I for one would like to see a better highlighting system. At its present its just too "dim".

Maybe you should buy a new monitor if you can't see the difference between these two buttons.
The attachment tc.jpg is no longer available

Now that they are side by side, I see there isn't much contrast. It might be a good idea to brighten them up a bit.

If I remember correctly, right now in order to see if a unit is TC'd you must click on that unit's flag and then check the TC button to see what color it is. You have to repeat that for each unit you want to check. What would be nice is a toggle key that would display a TC icon above each unit that is TC'd. Therefore, in one keystroke you could have a visual indication if any unit within sight that is TC'd.

Can I add my name to those requesting much greater difference between TC ON and TC OFF?

I often end up clicking on the button a few times before I know whether a unit is TC'd or not.

The button is clearly lit up when the unit is TC'd, so you must be confused. Click the flag, the button lights up, click it again, it is unlit like the rest of the buttons. I also like to assign the TC button to a keyboard command. The keyboard.csv is located in the Work folder. I usually like to change TC on to the 1 key, TC off to the 2 key.

And... A little sneak preview, there's a new command that will be in the patch that automatically selects all of a commanders subordinate officers. :)
