RebBugler - Flag Question ?

RebBugler – How is everything going?
Hey, I have a couple of flag questions for you if you don’t mind!
I personally think that the flags look better in the game without the glowing outline around them, when you click on them.
I’m in the process of removing the glowing effect – but I have to do the flags first, and then do the alpha-channel to match the new flag coordinates.
Question – Is there a way of doing both at the same time. You know something like crop the flag & alpha channel – so that it will only be four crops per flag?
Question – What are your Save Settings for the flags?
Did I explain that correctly?
Thanks,
davinci

Hey D...
Eliminating the glow should be fairly easy. As you know, I use Paint.Net, so I'll talk that, don't know how to translate for photoshop, your app of choice.
Anyway, open flag graphics file with your app of choice that can open DDS and edit, select the non glow flags, copy them to a new layer, move them over the glows, delete glows, flatten layers, save as TGA or DDS5.
Not sure about all those Alpha questions, guess that's handled by the app.
Oh, also have to open the gfx file and make sure the flag is saved as DDS or TGA. As you know, I used both.

OK, thanks.
That is basically the same process that I am doing, but for some reason it is not picking up the Alpha Channel.
So, after moving all of the flags, you know, Set One – over Glow One, Set Two – over Glow Two…etc
But this process leaves the Alpha Channel un-touched!
So, I have to then open the alpha channel, and repeat the four steps above.
I was just hoping that I could move the flags and the alpha channel at the same time!
Thanks again!

Yeah, I tried photoshop and had those same problems, eliminating that black background, the Alpha channel. Tim used it for the SOW flags, so he knows the photoshop way. I just know Paint.Net, it's not as detailed as photoshop, but easy to learn, least for me, and it's FREE.
Sorry I don't have any more answers, I certainly appreciate your promoin' of the DRFs. Thanks

OK, Thanks, your flags really does do the game justice!
Hey, I’m complaining about nothing really, even with the alpha-channel, it is still just eight edits per flag set, so that is not bad!
I have been putting off doing this since the old game; I just don’t like the small icons above the units, or the glow around the flags, the icons were a simple fix.
Back-on-topic :
I saved the NC_Flags.tga – which if I remember were 1041KB – after saving it went too 4097KB. Do you remember which settings you used on these – 24, or 32?
But, I serious doubt that the increase in file size for those flags will make any difference, just wondering what I did wrong!
Thanks again!

Sorry, still no intelligent answers...the bit-rate auto detects and the TGA save defaulted at 1024KB, there was a non compression option that was 4MB, but with no apparent improvement that I saw.

Ten – Four!
No, problem, I’m just occupying myself until the release of the new patch!
But, my changes are just not of to the same standard as yours, so I’ll keep experimenting with this!
Thanks, for the assistance.
