I am new to the game and the website. I am interested in downloading a copy of the 112 page manual (I like rules!). Is there one available, or could someone tell me where it can be found? Additionally, I see that Zouaves have red pants, but the Iron Brigade does not have Black Hats. Is this correctable? Thanks.

Check the Docs subfolder of the SOWGB directory.

You mean this Iron Brigade? :)

I am Soooo sorry about that. I could have sworn that in one of the tutorials, 2/1/I (the players command) was working with 1/1/I and they were wearing sack coats and forage caps. Thanks. They do look good! Right down to the gaiters!

I have been CW reenacting for the last 25 years as a member of the 24th Michigan. For the last 14-15 years we have been invited by the NPS to camp on the GB battlefield for a summer weekend for demonstrations and talking with the public. We keep bugging them about letting us camp on MacPhearsons Ridge, but, not allowed. I think, at my limited exposure, the game is great! I will probably do a lot of sandboxing on the first day field.:woohoo:

No prob at all. Glad you are liking the game.

That's not the best quality picture (didn't realize until after I uploaded) but you get the idea. :)

And that sounds awesome camping on the GB battlefield, I'm jealous. Every reenactment unit I've seen at Gettysburg has always been top notch. I saw a North Carolina Regiment demonstrating on Cemetery Ridge on our last team trip and they were excellent.

I have noted in the game that troops go through a lot of gyrations moving from one formation to another. It seems to be centered on a regiments flag. This could be simplified if the flags were always left in the middle of the formation. When a regiment is in line, the flag is at the left of the center company (nearly the middle). To go to march column the order is given: "Battalion, Right Face!". Every one turns right (90 deg.) and even #'d men step forward to the right of the guy who had been to his right. From this, you have gone from a battle line (facing north, say) to a column of fours facing east. The column is now ready to march away, but in that column, the colors are still in the MIDDLE of the formation, not at the head of it.

Troops are alway most comfortable with what they are familiar with, like having the same guys near them when in formation. All infantry formations revolve around that principle, so any given soldier will have to move a minimal amount moving from one familiar position to another familiar position. Whatever in the AI or graphics engine that changes formation is sending soldiers all over the place (and taking a long time) to go from a simple column to a simple line. Let me know if you ever want to discuss this kind of thing. I do not know how it gets programmed, but it think it must be doable. Again, thanks for your time.

Very good points. Check out the drills.csv in the logistics folder. Level 6, lvl6, formations will show you the structure used for the game and this is the level that would have to be changed to accommodate your ideas. Mess with it, put it in a mod, make it work like you've suggested...I for one would like to see what you can come up with...improvements are always welcome. :)

Never having "moded" before, could you tell me where this file is located? I do not know where "drills.csv" or "the logistics folder" are found.
