Cavarlry movement speed?

I notice that when large units with cavalry move, the infantry seems to out pace the cavalry. It has been many years since I rode, but it would seem the cavalry would a least trot to stay in front. I know when I control them, I gallop them way ahead to scout the road, then if needed to screen the enemy. Just an observation.

How would one change their movement speed in the files?

First I would open the Work \ SDK \ Logistics – folder and Copy the unitglobal – file to the Desktop .

Edit – the file on lines (49 – 53) – in the Column D – change the 4 to a 6 on all five lines.
Edit – the file on lines (88 – 92) – in the Column D – change the 4 to a 6 on all five lines.

Basically , what you are doing is giving the Cavalry Commander, along with the Cavalry a higher movement speed than the Infantry units which is a ( 4 ).

Next, right click – desktop – create a new folder – name it – Cavalry Mod

Next, right click – desktop – create a new folder – name it – Logistics

Next, drag the unitglobal file - into the Logistics folder.

Now, drag the Logistics – folder - into the Cavalry Mod folder.

You should have a single folder on the Desktop – named – Cavalry Mod – that you need to place into your Mods – folder.

Now – all you have to do is to activate the mod – to have the Cavalry move at a higher speed!

Jri,

Another speed situation that arises is where units are in the order of battle. If you are using the "everyone march on the road at the same time" command, all the units play "follow the leader." They can't pass the ones in front. This is based on the commanders of each units position in the order of battle. If you want the Cav out front you can "detach" them and they can move faster then the infantry. Also, if you do detach them, they will move faster by themselves. I detach my artillery if I want to race them forward into position. You can test this by trying to "double quick" an attached battery past your infantry on a road march. You'll see them hold up behind the next unit above them, little legs galloping furiously and going nowhere. Davinci is right also, but if they are not crossing a field or detached, they won't go any faster.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Jack

I have moved the arty that way when close to the fight. On the road movement, it did not seem to work out for me. I will detach them, like you suggested.

D,

Yeah, I figured this out back during the First Bull Run Days. Used to have the infantry march on the side of the road so the guns could move quickly on the road. Couldn't figure out why for a long time the guns couldn't go ahead of the "poor Foot" as they marched. Probably detached someone by accident and there you go.
