CTD

Hello.
I have not played this game for a few months, but today I downloaded the 1.2 patch and applied it, and got a CTD - even before the main menu. I thought first that the problem could be with the beta patch, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, first with my backup files and then even with a freshly downloaded 1.102 exe file. But I get always the same CTD (not even the main menu shows up), regardless of the version (1.102 demo, 1.102 activated, 1.103, 1.2 beta). Note that the problem is not the activation, I can activate the game alright.
The only 2 changes I made recently in my PC (after my last successful try at playing the game) were:
- a new Internet security suite (F-secure; I had Kaspersky's), but I checked that the firewall had allowed communication for SOW, and even excluding SOW.exe from the antivirus or stopping altogether the antivirus AND firewall, I get the CTD.
- I updated the Graphic card drivers (I have an ATI HD 5750, now with 11.2 drivers)
The rest of my rig is exactly the same as before, when the game loaded alright: Windows XP SP2, Intel Dual Core CPU (E7400), 4 Gig RAM, same Hard drive, etc.
Any ideas ? I attach the latest SOWGB.log, created in my last CTD, in case it might help

Have you made sure that you have disabled all of the mods?
Any Mod or OOB that was developed before the patch will crash the game!

Have you tried installing to a new location? Don't enable any mods with the newest patch. Your log looks like it may be a mod issue.

I never had any Mods. And I am getting CTDs with ALL game versions, not just 1.2
After the first CTDs I completely uninstalled and then manually wiped out all left over files. I then did a registry cleanup with CCleaner, rebooted and reinstalled to a different directory, that's when I got (again) a CTD that produced the attached log.
Are you sugesting I install in a different Hard drive ??

Maybe try a full re-download/install.. Those are strange errors in your log. If you are not running any mods and haven't modified the game in any way, then try a re-download/install just to rule out a corrupt download of the game.

"sigh"
If you read my original post that's precisely what I did already... First I reinstalled using my original backed up files and then I ré-downloaded again the game file, and continued to get CTD. That's when I first posted. Nevertheless, I will try it again...

Well, I did a full uninstall, using Revo Uninstaller. Downloaded (again) version 1.102, re-installed it, now to my system drive (C:\NorbsoftDev), activated it OK and again a CTD, before getting to the main menu.
Attached another log, that has different warnings ???
Please, any clues as to what is happening ?
As a side note, all my other games (ex: AACW, Histwar, The Witcher, etc) are working OK

As this latest log warnings seem related to graphics, I uninstalled and reinstalled my ATI drivers (11.2) - same CTD, exactly same log.
Is anyone experiencing CTD with the latest ATI drivers ?
I still have the ATI 10.12 somewhere, but I am reltant to downgrade my graphics drivers - again, all my other games and applications run fine...

Those are not graphics errors, just information. Those errors in the first log are just really weird. Like the game cannot find files, nothing to do with your card.
If all you changed was to install 2 programs, try uninstalling them. Hate to suggest that, but it seems the course to follow.

Problem solved. It was indeed caused by my Internet security suite (F-secure, provided by my cable company), that was causing the CTD. This program has something called "DeepGuard", that can be ON (as per default. But if a sub-option called something like "advanced process monitoring" (that apparently impedes programs checking for their own integrity) is ON (as per default), SOWGB crashes. If this "advanced" option is OFF (during installation of SOWGB and playing), no CTD !
Curious that only SOW crashes with this...
Posting this also because some other users might stumble on the same problem.
