sound
I am having trouble with sound. If I am directly in front or overhead of a unit I can hear them, anyware else the game is completly quiet. It is like there are sweet spots I find to hear the game and thats it. Also I just got the game and dont remember is there background music at all? I heard there is a sound mod and maybe thats the way to go, I have never done a mod before and I have the downloaded version of the game.
Thanks Logan

Re: sound
sounds originate from a unit, the farther you are away, the harder it is going to be to hear them.

Re: sound
I only get sound if I am directly in front of a unit or on top of it. If I am zoomed in right behind it watching it engage an enemy the game is quiet. I hear no background fighting from other units not even arty. I only hear the units if I am directly overhead or in front. Also is there no background sound?
Thanks

Re: sound
For reasons unknown, a number of people have had issues with the sound files. For instance, the musket sounds on my computer sound like little pop guns. The woods and field background sounds were also very faint. Other people have no issues at all. A solution is to take the appropriate sounds out of TC2M, rename them and put them into SOW. That's what I did and everything sounds great. If you don't have TC2M, there are two files in the mod forum section for alternate musket and arty sounds. That will at least get you started.
As Norb said, the sounds are directional, which gives the game a very high immersion value. He really does a great job implementing these kind of details.

Re: sound
It would be a good test to see if it's something that we've changed in the patches, or just a common issue. I know that lots of the files have changed over time, so do the originals work better.

In my case, the problem has existed since day one. None of the patches/new files have made things better or worse. I created a zip file with all my replacement sounds and install them when a new patch fails to improve this aspect of the game.It would be a good test to see if it's something that we've changed in the patches, or just a common issue. Re: sound
I dont know if it matters but the game sounds for me were all good and working, then I got a new computer and went for xp to windows 7. Now my sound is very low and like I said only right in front or on top of a unit and I need to be really zoomed in to hear good musket fire.

Hi, just to poke my head in here because this is sounding familiar to me.I dont know if it matters but the game sounds for me were all good and working, then I got a new computer and went for xp to windows 7. Can you hear the menu music by any chance (when you start the game)? The reason I have interrupted is because before I lost my menu music, the sounds on the battlefield were very, very low (musket sounds) which made me have to increase my headset volume to almost max then no menu music.
Just wondering.
Later!

Re: sound
Hey Mikesla, That is pretty much exactly what is going on with mine. Combat sounds very low or not there at all unless right zoomed on a unit then I can hear but low. I also have to have it turned all the way up and there is no background music.
