Road-System - Speed - Question?

Question – did something happen with the game pertaining to the speed of the roads?

The reason that I ask is that I decided to have two regiments race each other to test the speed of using the roads, and they are each moving at the same speed.

I noticed this when the AI was chasing one of my regiments that was using the road-system, while they were traveling cross-country. My unit was not able to gain any distance on them.

At first I thought that the AI was cheating, but this proves that all units are moving at the same speed, whether using the roads, or moving on the rough terrain.

Speed setting on terrain = -1
Speed setting on the road = 0.2 and 0.1

As far as I know nothing was changed with this. I believe that it has been like that all along but don't quote me on that. It has always been my understanding that moving by roads doesn't actually increase a units speed, but they are staying clear of obstructions (trees, fences, walls, etc.) so they get to their destination faster.

I think travel by roads caused less fatique on the troops.

Yes, that's the only difference between marching cross country and via a road. This has always been the case.

I have always been under the impression that if I gave the terrain a lower movement speed the game would slow the movement rate of any unit moving on that particular terrain.
I think travel by roads caused less fatigue on the troops.
That would explain the H Column – in the mapname.csv file, but that would not explain the C Column in that same file.

Either I’m losing my mind, or this has not always been the case, probably the former, and not the latter.
