Maps

I cleaned out my scenarios the other day, the ones from Garnier's campaign. I used to host almost all the games, but recently, several new players have been hosting, a good thing. Anyway, I had like almost 500 scenarios I'd created and hosted using the GCM. That's a whole lot of games on not very many maps.

Why don't you guys allow users to make maps? I think it would bring more players to the game, and it'd surely help those of us who play MP games. We've littered every inch of each map (except the two new ones, and they're getting damp with blood already) with dead soldiers literally hundreds and hundreds of times.

So. . . what benefit is there for Norbsoft in keeping the map modding locked?

It's just part of a plan we discussed a while ago when we started working on this. The team decided that we would keep them locked until we were done with our own expansions. We also have a very unfriendly user tool that needs a ton of work before it could be public. We've been following a plan for a while now and have pretty much stuck to it. When we are done with our expansions, modifications and all the formats are set in stone, we will release everything. It's the same model we followed for TC2M, as we only opened up the maps once it was clear that we were not going to do any future expansions.

It's understandable you want to do your own Antietam or whatnot and put a little bread on the family table without having some industrious modder do it for free first.
Maybe a map editor that would be handicapped in some way so that the grand projects you aim to do as expansions wouldn't have competition but which could allow people to freshen up the game with additional content? Something with limitations in map size, terrain types or something?

..And that's not saying we didn't just get a bunch of new maps and scenarios from the dev team :)

Being a "westerner" I am glad there are rumors of a Shiloh, but I'd like to see maps that cover the Vickburg Campaign where the war was really won including Port Gibson/Raymond/Jackson/Champion Hill/Big Black. Followed of course by maps to cover Chickamauga/Missionary Ridge/Browns Ferry/Lookout Mountain fights. Maybe even Vicksburg itself with the river, gunboats/ironclads and such... The battle for Helena,AK as well. Not too much to ask is it...... :) Do we really need ANOTHER Antietam/Chancellorsville, etc. I know most think the entire war was fought in VA...
Also, while I am asking, please add in 1meter geospatially accurate terrain with proper LOS so people learn that artillery was not the end all be all and that rough ground/brushy will break up columns and lines.

Yeah it's not possible without release of the editor.
