Surrender?

Post by Gfran64 »

Hey guys,

Is there going to be a surrender option for multiplayer or the regular game? I don't mean individual units surrendering but rather a full surrender of the opponent or yourself. Could you click on an opponent's/AI commander at any level and ask them if they want to surrender or surrender to them? I think it would be neat to have sort of a white flag screen where the 2 commanders ride out and one surrenders to the other with no time being lost in the battle. If the other commander said no then hostilities could begin again and you would have to wait some time before you could ask again. I think that most civil war commanders facing total defeat or annihilation would have saved the men they loved and respected rather than throw them to the dogs in a lost cause. Let me know what you think.

Regards,

Greg

I always thought that that was a good idea. In addition, individual units should also be able to surrender if you want them to.

I think a surrender option might make some sense in a MPer 'game' if one player is down to a few regiments while the other player still has most of his Army intact. If the losing player has absolutely no chance to win the game, why continue the battle and waste valuable time and bandwidth.
It might even make sense in MPer for the game to automatically declare a winner under extreme lop-sided conditions using some predetermined criteria other than battle duration time or VPs. A lot of this kind of stuff will probably evolve once the new game hits the streets.

There is historical precedence for large scale surrenders; Vicksburg, post Petersburg, Fort Donelson, etc. come to mind.

Good idea, but honestly knowing how competitive people can get during these games, it wouldn't be used much. People will just drop out first.
