OK, this is my first attempt at changing the Font!

After searching for hours on the internet - I decided to start searching on my Computer for the pft files and came upon the PR6 program that was Installed.

This program - allows for the Font size to be changed - this is at 36 - so I might have to go smaller to size 24.

It's going to take awhile to go through all of the files, but I did find this one to post.

The first one is the normal one, the second one is the first attempt at changing it, the third one is probably closer to the real thing as in hastly writing on the battlefield.

EDIT POST - here is another one that looks like it is written in the field - sort of hard to make out without reading it again!

Negative...

These are some of the files that are located in the PR6 program.

Basically – most of the files on the Internet are not ending with the extension of pft – which the game is looking for!

I did find a small group that might be usable.

????? Handwriting – the second picture showing
Rage italic – third picture
Bradley Handwriting – fourth picture

Not Showing : that may be used?

FreeStyle Script
Script
Script MT Bold

As of now – I have no idea about how to convert them if they are not pft, also most of the ones on the Internet are copyright – and states that they can't be used in a commercial product!

Where did you get the PR6 program? I can't find any reference on Google for it or the pft files.

Are you staying up late or getting up early? It's 3:00am here in California.

There is a freeware program called Fontmaker that can convert (I think) the Lamar Pen ttf to pft.

http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/F ... 81369.html

Texas Pen and Houston Pen are also fonts that would look appropriate, but I think the Lamar Pen is still my favorite from the ones I've been able to find so far.

As far as the copyright issue, NSD would not be using the Lamar Pen font in it's commercial product (at this point). The font use currently being discussed is for commercial product (GBSOW) post-sale individual use and is not meant for resale as a part of a commercial product for intended profit.

NSD - I know in the past you mentioned at some point you might make the game more friendly to using different types of fonts. Is this still a possibility? It would be nice to be able to use some of the more modern popular font formats rather than the somewhat obscure ChiWriter pft format from way back in the MS-DOS days of 1986.

Nice work, DaVinci, on the continuing progress on the courier message appearance. So far, I like the third sample best because it is the closest of the four samples to 19th century handwriting.

I also like the third one pictured. It does give the feel of real handwriting and can be read. I was wondering if you could put folds in the paper to simulate a courier folding his orders and dashing off to deliver them. Just a thought.

PR6 – is an abbreviation for Power Render 6 – this is what the games engine was built upon.

The Power Render Program – is used by us to edit the maps from the previous game. It has a Fontmaker program inside of it.

Yes – that is the name of the program that I used for the above examples.

Yes, Pending – but I'll try to get you an example of a folding piece of paper within a week.

Guys – The third one is a prime example of someone on a battlefield writing in a hurry, while being quite nervous from all of the excitement.

While some of these notes were written at HQ – I would say most were written on the field.

I have to agree with this. Most of the courier messages we are dealing with in the game are being written "in the saddle" so the handwriting would probably be more on the "scrawl" end of the handwriting spectrum rather than the calligraphy side.

Also – I stayed up late last night, so in order to make sure that this would work I did the one thing that we are not supposed to do, I over-wrote the games original file.

I'll try to experiment with placing the files in a mod in order to achieve the same results, but over-writing the files was the quickest way to get to the results, but I do this all the time.

The problem – that may arise from this is that I'm not one-hundred-percent how many of the games files used the same font as the courier message, so I'm hoping that none of them does.

As far as I can tell – there are only about four edits that have to be made to add in a font for the messages.

Base \ Font
Mod \ Logistics – gamefonts.csv
Logistics - – the two entries in the gscreens.csv – file.
