So when you get a message asking a question.
You can reply to the person sending the message.
Just in case he is not on the list.

Sounds like a useful minor feature. Especially for replying to the "what's your status?" messages. Hopefully it wouldn't be too much of a headache to code. The courier system for MP was a tough beast for Norb to tame.
