Normal vs. HITS
I play Tutorial 4, Early's Division in Normal Mode and score 800+ with little repositioning of the brigades once the fighting starts. When I try it in HITS, I line the brigades up exactly like I do in Normal and watch them get decimated. My typical score is -1,000.
Please offer any advice that might help. Thanks.

Are you playing custom difficulty HITS, or Historical or Grog difficultly?I play Tutorial 4, Early's Division in Normal Mode and score 800+ with little repositioning of the brigades once the fighting starts. Playing via HITS entails very steep learning curve. The 1st month I played that way I probably lost 90% of my games. That was a big piece of humble pie to swallow. When I became very good at it, I still lost 25-30% of them. At least the pie slices were manageable. Good luck.
Yes, commanding via 21st century technology, overflying the battlefield and giving instant orders to your troops, vs 19th century technology, where you are only 10 ft above the ground and your orders are delivered at the speed of a trotting horse, does make a difference. With HITS you have no advantages over the AI. It plays the same way, and it plays brilliantly. By using 21st century technology, the AI only gives a mediocre performance and is quite easy to defeat.I play Tutorial 4, Early's Division in Normal Mode and score 800+ with little repositioning of the brigades once the fighting starts. I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Historical doesn't only put you in HITS, it also increases the overall difficulty level (tougher enemy regiments etc.)I am playing Historical.
If you just want HITS but normal difficulty, (how I usually play) choose Custom Difficulty, then max camera distance 10.

Re: Normal vs. HITS
Thanks for the tip. Why does changing the camera distance make HITS easier. I thought at Historical the strength of the regiments was historical strength. I also thought Normal was historical strength????
Please clarify if possible. Thanks again.

Changing the camera distance doesn't make HITS easier. Historical and Grog just happen to include HITS.Thanks for the tip. Why does changing the camera distance make HITS easier. And sorry I was mistaken, Historic doesn't increase the strength of the regiments.
Checkout page 43 of the manual and it will explain it all.
