Infantry square
Infantry square
I had not seen the AI form square before, but today at Pipe Creek 2, two regiments of Davis' brigade did, sort of, soon after making contact with the advancing enemy infantry (no enemy cavalry in sight:

Re: Infantry square
I didn't even know you could form a square.
Re: Infantry square
Well I can't but the AI can, and there appears to be at least two infantry square formations in the drills file. Here is Davis' brigade holding in what was supposed to be (ordered to be) double line:

Getting to know RebBugler's toolbar mod better, I see that I probably unwittingly ordered the squares, as they are the same button as "column", sort of.
Re: Infantry square
It would have to be something along those lines, due to the fact that the AI would never choose that formation on their own.Getting to know RebBugler's toolbar mod better, I see that I probably unwittingly ordered the squares, as they are the same button as "column", sort of.
After you posted this I did browse over the default drills file, and notice that the square formation is close to the line-formation at the level five-command structure.

When you go to the Column box, place your cursor on the left side of the box for column, and place the cursor on the right side of the box for square.

Re: Infantry square
Ha, was testing that formation and forgot to delete it before publishing. Anyway, maybe someone can find a use for it, it's slow and cumbersome with reduced firepower...maybe? Not sure if they block each other out or not...so, maybe someone will test this out better and report.
