Tutorial - Corps Command - I scrawled random lines on a map with a crayon and told the divisions to arrange themselves thusly

I am doing something wrong it appears. I am arranging divisions in line with reserves and they always end up jumbled messes with regiments all over the place. I am putting 1st Div to the right of 11th Corps, 2nd Div on the hill to the west, and 3rd Div heading to fill the center. The artillery is placed at the base of the hill initially and I usually try to secure the hill them get them up there.
Most of the regiments and guns move around radically, however. Even the guns spread out very far from where I place them. I think some of this is the division commander reacting to the situation but is this normal or am I doing something wrong? As it stands regiments keep getting in each others way. How do I encourage a bit more order in the ranks?
I am enjoying the demo so far, I used to play SMG a whole lot and I am looking forward to having something to replace one of my favorite games.
