Telescope / Binoculars
Telescope / Binoculars
How difficult would it be to change the border of the screen when you press the 'z' key to simulate looking through a telescope? You could even reduce the field of view.
Wouldn't have to be anything fancy - if you can make a map pop up when press M, you could make a telescope or binoculars cut out pop up when you press the z key. It could be an amended on screen map, but sized to take up the screen with one or two holes in it.
Something like these

Re: Telescope / Binoculars
Just had a quick mess around with some csv's there. It's easy to change the keys so that a map will pop up when you press z. Thats where I hit the wall.
1. How do you make it so a key does two commands, whats the syntax?
2. How do I open the .dds files to edit a map into two big hollow semi circles.
3. Most of the open screen commands pause the game. How do I make it more like the movement map which doesn't pause the game?
These may be all hard-coded and unchangeable, but it's the first time ive ever thought of modding anything, so be gentle.

Re: Telescope / Binoculars
This can probably be done via the gui and gscreens files. Design a Binoculars screen and call it up, loadscreen (Function 2), with 'Zoom'(Function 1), action on, however, the screen would have to be manually clicked off, CanButton.
Edit...Did a quickie mod, works somewhat, but way too many probs since the zoom function is several clicks. Also, can't pan with screen initiated.

Thanks for trying, you probably saved me weeks of experimenting in a couple of hours work!

Re: Telescope / Binoculars
Reb - What would happen if you used the Follow Command as the binoculars?
Since, I don't know what you have done, I figured that you would know if this would work,, and it should allow you to rotate the view.

The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!
Re: Telescope / Binoculars
Do you think it's possible mister?

Not even for the KittyCat.
Least I don't know how. 'Follow' just complicates matters, even more clicks. When any screen comes up, the toolbar is frozen, so you must click off the screen each time to continue 'sequence click' commands.
However, D loves mysteries, and making the impossible happen...have at it.

Re: Telescope / Binoculars
Sounds complicated alright.
What if you eliminated the first zoom, and only had the maximum one? I could live with that. Simple On:Off.
And what if instead of a screen like the in-game map (m) or courier menu, you used an amended version of the movement map (n), which doesn't freeze the game?

Correct , I forgot about that part of it. I was being lazy and didn't want to get into another mod at the moment! When any screen comes up, the toolbar is frozen, so you must click off the screen each time to continue 'sequence click' commands.
Thanks, RebBugler after your response I'll going to pass on this one.
