Skirmish at Arnhofen

Post by Leatherneck24 »

Small little skirmish between Crown Prince of Bavaria's first division vs the small brigade of Austrian commander Thierry. Jack maybe you could take a crack at this OOB. Thanks LN

Bavarian OOB
Crown Prince Ludwig 1st Division
1st Brigade-GM von Rechberg
1/1st Leib Infantry Regiment(Max I. Joseph) (800) 1 Batt
2nd Infantry Regiment Kronprinz (1,540) 2 Batt
1st Light Battalion Habermann (813) 1 Batt
2nd Brigade- GM Stengel
4th Infantry Regiment (1,645) 2 Batt.
8th Infantry Regiment Herzog Pius (1619) 2 Batt
Cavalry Brigade- GM Von Zandt
1st Dragoon Regiment (260) 2 squadrons
1st Chevauxlegers Regiment Kronprinz (470) 4 squadrons
Artillery- Major Halder (418)
Foot Batteries: Wagner, Hofstetten. 4 6 pounders, 2 howizters each battery
Light(Horse) Battery: Regnier. 4 6 pounders, 2 howizters
Reserve Battery: von Leiningen 4 12 pounders, 2 howizters. Did not arrive at the battle
Effective strength: 8,000 at the battle. 2/1st was detached.

Austrian OOB
2nd Brigade: GM Thierry
Kaiser Infantry Regiment No.1 (2,678) 3 Batt.
Lindenau Infantry Regiment No. 29 (2,479) 2 Batt.
Levenehr Dragoons No.4 (725) Oberst Anton Graf Hardegg
8 guns 6 pounders.

The battle was about 5 hours long with Thierry forced to retreat after taking a serious setback. Even though he has only a brigade his command is almost as big the 2 Bavarian infantry brigades. Thierry commanded about 6,500 men it seems. Pretty fun battle as the Austrians went on the offensive, but quickly were forced on the defensive and a fight for survival.

L24,

Roger that. Should have something by tomorrow.

Questions - Do you want skirmishers with the Bavarian Infantry? (as in, using the Formation where you click on it and one battalion automatically goes out in skirmish order). Let me know.

Do you want all the Austrian Battalions in one HUGE Brigade or like Gunship did and sort of break them down by regiment?

I will substitute Austrian Chevauxleger for Dragoons as we don't have any sprites yet for them.

Well the Bavarians did have Schutzen which were the third rank of the battalion. The Bavarians actually fought in 2 ranks all the way to the campaign of 1809 and even maybe during it. If I can recall I remember reading a battle where the divisions Schutzens were grouped together to form a skirmish line so I think being able to send out skirmishers are fine. http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=178499
TMP gives some details on the structure of skirmishers.

I believe the cavalry should be commanded by the Oberst on their own, but it seems like Thierry's brigade acted together so probably a big brigade would work. However, whatever you feel works best with the game is fine by me.

If someone could teach me how to map make I would love to make maps for these smaller battles.

Brother,

Am almost finished. The design of the game and the Mod are such the Schutzen are not possible. You'll have to use the light battalion halves as skirmishers. My thought was to have them in the same position as the Voltigeur battalions for the French. HOWEVER, I always just pull them out of the Brigade and just send them out to skirmish. That way I don't have to keep track of them as part of the brigade. The Bavarian kind of doesn't allow it, though. Maybe it does. Let me look at that a bit more. NO it won't. It will screw up the regimental integrity. Damn. Thought I had it there.

The Horse will always have to be a seperate "Brigade" even though we know its just a regiment. Also, having all the Infantry in one big brigade will be horribly unweildy. Let me send what I have. Let me know what you think and I'll tweek it.

Garnier we need to battle sometime in multiplayer. Sadly American Conquest no longer works on my computer so I have jumped ship and come this way to this great game. Hopefully this will become just as big of a following as the Hawks group had.

You know Garnier any game that allows me to bring the pain with the Bavarians is a good game for me!

Do you still use MSN? Mine is Garnier44 at live.com.

There's also teamspeak which would be better if we actually try to do MP.
