Cavalry battle at Alteglofsheim

Post by Leatherneck24 »

Well since the heavy cav has decided to arrive in this new update I am hoping Jack will be up to the task of making this great rearguard battle. The Austrians were outnumbered but I think it will be a nice battle to see if the Austrians can hold and push the French back. About 90 cavalry squadrons in all and around 36 cannons in this clash. The Austrians after being defeated were forced to retreat and an Austrian brigade of heavy cavalry (2 Regiment-6 sqns per regiment) and 4. Kronprinz Ferdinand 6 sqns were swept up in the flight after attempting to stop the French pursuit so they could be added to bolster the Austrians.

LN,

Except for the issue of no Carabiniers for the French, this should make for a handsome fight. It looks to be a very straight forward OOB. Maybe a week. I promised HE111 a custom one he has been patiently waiting for. Should get to that tomorrow or the next day. Then yours, for sure.

Jack as I was writing the OOB I thought about the Carabiners and how they could be changed. If worse comes to worse you could leave them out to make the fight a little more fair. Also you could change them to Dragoons since there lack of armor and uniform other than a different helmet and colors come from the same type of coat. Also I might mention that the Baden Dragoons and 1st Bavarian Chevaulegers were Napoleon's escort in place of the Guard Chasseurs a Cheval so from my reading I am not so sure they took place in the main combat. So if the OOB seems unfair I am sure they could be left off the battle. If you decide to put them in the battle then the Baden Dragoons look just like Bavarian Dragoons with a light blue coat so the Bavarian dragoons would do just fine.

Thanks again Jack B) By way why don't you come battle on HEW for awhile as I have rejoined the fighting and really enjoy the online gaming.

Would be interested to find out how this gets on. I can only imagine cavalry fights in large scale to be swift and bloody, although with the new patch units seem to rally a lot better when retreating so it could be interesting.

LN,

Appreciate the invite. However, my normal, (HA-HA), shift runs thru the afternoon into the evening. I have almost no time anymore to play online. If I am EXTREMELY lucky, I might get to play on the weekends, if nothing else goes wrong, (HA-HA - fat chance there.).

I tried a battle cavalry vs cavalry and the charges and counter charges actually work pretty well. It is like a real battle where the reserve wins and your cavalry will retreat and the fresh squadrons behind will help them rally and stop any cavalry pursing your beaten cavalry. I think it will work well but will have to see.

LN,

Okay - I have this done now. Testing it for playability.

As it stands -

Left out the Wurrtembergers - no sprites. NP, Light Horse anyway.

Replaced the Baden Light Horse with French Chassuers a Cheval. Again - no sprites. Probably could have used Bavarians but couldn't find any pics of the Badeners. I plead artistic license.

Each side will be in one huge Corps (or Korps). Easiest way to set it up.

If it all runs well, will post it tomorrow night at the latest. Then, on to william1993's requested OOB.

Okay - Show time...

It all works at all levels. Set up in SR4. Let me know what you think. Enjoy.

Actually Jack the Baden Dragoons look just like the Bavarian dragoons but with a darker blue coat. They shared the same helmet with a different monogram for their leader. So you could use the Dragoons for the Baden boys.

Will see how it looks!Wohoo
