This game looks very good. I was wondering if you let the computer play itself? Occasionally it might be interesting to just watch the battle without making decisions. Is that possible?

Thank you.

You can 'host' a multi-player game while not online and play in single player.

Then choose, for example, the full 11-hour Antietam scenario and choose to be, for example, a battery commander. Some sort of battle should develop (I don't know what AI instructions/stances the commanders have at the start) and you can fly round and watch.

This may be one way of doing what you describe.

Or you could do the same in a Sandbox game and choose a battery commander. You won't have the historic troop positions/movements as you do in a scenario, but you can choose any map, any setup etc. Cool idea actually rusty. :)

That's one of the neat things about the "choose your own commander" Pickett's Charge scenario. You can choose a battery commander or another unit that didn't take part, and watch the battle unfold. I might need to repost that scenario since it was part of an early SDK release (I think) and not widely available.
