I run a Joomla website, and I have been working on relieving some stress by looking for some plugins, modules, and components I can tinker with... I finally came across this little puppy.

I have tried i out yet, but I will, it's called "Yubikey Authentication"

Joomla! 1.5, 1.6 and 2.5 two-factor authentication (T-FA) plugin for use with the Yubico Yubikey one-time-password device. An accompanying component is included to manage Yubikey users.

With this authentication plugin you may selectively choose which Joomla users will require a Yubikey device to log into Joomla!.

Two-factor authentication is achieved by requiring a Yubikey-enabled user to first input their Joomla! password and then adding their Yubikey one-time-password to the end of that forming a single password consisting of the user's Joomla! password and their Yubikey one-time-password concatenated to the end of that. The username/password screens of Joomla! remain the same.

No worries there redcoat, your not an ork of any sort.

At first glance (I never read anything) I thought this would be for USB key, soon to find out that though the service is interesting you have to have a Yubikey (similar to a usb key, but not) which costs around $25.00 dollars.

What this service is you can setup your website to only allow those who have a Yubikey (one you provide), and when you plugin in the key it will immediately have a popup which then checks your key status against the Cloud server, once done you are now logged into the website. Or at least that is what I think it is suppose to do.

Oh well...

Well I think I may have found something that I am interested in, and it's called "ALPass". I don't like storing my login information for all the sites I visit simply because I could loose it to hackers, etc, etc, etc...

Get a portable password manager on your USB flash drive

As a PC user youprobably keep track of numerous passwords and login details. TheInternet can make this complicated. With the increasing number of socialnetworking websites and online services, it’s really difficult to keeptrack of IDs and passwords. Security is also a major issue when we loginin to web services from multiple machines. Although most web browsersoffer to remember your login details, it is not advisable or useful onpublic computers. Alternatively, you can use a portable password managerto get rid of such issues.

A portable password manager can reside on your Ontop USB flash drive and act as a password storage program. It can store the login details of multiple websites. When you connect a USB flash drive to a computer with password manager on it, it will autofill the ID and password field and let you login to the website. It also helps you to protect your sensitive information from spyware and keyloggers since you don’t need to key-in your login details.

There are dozens of password manager programs out there. Some of them are free and some are not. I have been using ALPass, a free portable password manager for the past few months and it works really well.

Getting started

The setup file for ALPass is just 5.5MB and you can download it from here. Before you begin the installation of ALPass, connect your Ontop USB flash drive to an empty USB port.

For those who might be interested, I have come across another which far exceeds the one I posted above. I am now working with it to figure it all out, and so far it exceeds my own expectations. This will work with all known web browsers, and you can install it on a USB drive which you can take anywahere. It will encrypt all passwords, and etc..

It will also import all passwords, and bookmarks from other browsers as well, will also autologin you in if you wish without having to lift a finger. If you are on the go, take your USB key wih you, and whatever device you may use, and has a usb port, just plus it in, and off you go. No one can access your passwords unless they are very skilled at what they do (anything can be cracked no matter how well encrypted). You can also have this program create random generated passwords for websites...this is a really nice piece of work.

I suggest that you download the USB version of this software if you are always moving about, and take it anywhere since it's on a USB Key, and keep your login info safe from prying eyes.
