Battle vs Chess... Not only beautiful, but what gameplay!

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

Here is something I have been eyeballing over the past little while. Should I or shouldn't I buy this, and after watching a few videos I'm very much convinced that this game is for me. I have to say though I am more in love with the idea that I can play chess, in reality I really stink at it.

Yes it chess, but has so much more to it, and has taken to an area where you actually have to do battle when you attack the enemies chess pieces. That's a mode I think is called battlemode, but you can also play standard chess along with campaign mode, skirmish mode... There is simply allot in this game. Play classic chess, along with a few very unique chess modes... I think these guys really did well with this game.

Watch the video, it will explain it far better than I can.

Here is video.

I don't know how to break this to you but the outcome of any battle between individual pieces is predetermined. Sad but true. :(

Sounds a lot like the old (1988) Amiga game Battle Chess. I think it was ported to other systems later on, but it first came out for the Amiga and was pretty interesting until you found out that the winner was predetermined, then it got boring fast.

Just found this also:

One similar game, titled Battle VS Chess, was developed by TopWare Interactive for "just about every platform". However, Interplay filed and won an injunction for copyright infringement in 2010. TopWare was prevented from releasing Battle vs Chess in the United States, trial is set for the summer of 2012.
Looks like the game you are talking about.

War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.

Hey B.

Hmmmm, interesting because from what I watched in this, and other videos you have control over your piece to battle with along with your other A.I pieces, but if you are right than what is the point? Hmmm, I shall have to look for more info on this then before I want to spend the money.

Thanks B for the heads up, much appreciated.

Thanks Shirkon, I never knew that. i didn't know that is where the first Battle chess game came from was an Amiga game. Your right about it getting old very fast, I could never play out a full match.

It could be the same game then that is being disputed.

OK. The Chess part of the game is just that, Chess. It uses the Fritz engine which is probably the best out there. The other part of the game is not Chess but some kind of battle game played on a chessboard with animated pieces.

If you want to play chess against a computer, buy Fritz.

If you want a wargame buy SOW. :P

At least I got the second half right.

Thanks B. I'm not much of a Chess player anyway, hell a 1 year old can beat me. I read over what Fritz is about, and I have to say not bad at all, and thanks for the link, unfortunately I'm a real nob when it comes to chess, and I like the cool graphics... It seems to be more my speed. If I ever have a few dollars to let slip through my fingers who knows maybe I'll break down, and buy it. :)

Thanks again B, much appreciated. ;)

@B: Do you play fritz13?

Man that program is expensive, 99.00 Euro.

It had better be a good program to cost that much. Obviously you can create your own database if I understand this correctly, and be a part of an entire online community.

Nice, and thanks again B. :)
