Vampires are big business among the kiddies; add in the Victorian era steampunky appeal and I'm not surprised this or something much like it hasn't been done sooner.

That's true enough. Just an odd premise mixing the two. The American Civilwar with hunting vampires. Then again it is a Tim Burton design.
