Which translation program are you using, Michael?

Have you tried translating one of these back into English, using the program, to see what emerges? Machine translation is clever, but has limitations.

I don't think that you would get a proper image back. If the translation (original) is improper, then it's translation will or be just as bungled.

Only way is to get feedback from the community to see what is what I'm afraid.

Translating it back would give monolingual English speakers a flavour of how the translations might read to native speakers of German, French or Italian.

There is a big localization (aka translation) industry which relies on human translators. Meaningful translation tests the limits of artificial intelligence.

Could be worth a try... You could do it if you want too. I'll give you the links to try it out.

Absolutely. BUT using these brain dead translators (software) can give those who at present time can't read English a way to get some sort of understanding of what is printed in the manual, at least for now. Your are definitely right, to get a proper translation it's best to have it done by those who are fluent in the language you wish to convert over too.

Thanks Michael,

I have just used Google Translate to translate back a little bit of the French PDF. It does manage to get a lot right, which I think is very impressive, but not perfect. Over to the French-, Italian- and German-speaking players ...

The screen description of the scenario
When you click a flag to select a script to screen the Gettysburg scenario,
Scenario Description screen appears. You can scroll the screen to view the basic information below:
• Playback time you have to do this long to capture your goal(s) and defeat enemy forces.
• Command, date, time, location, and weather These give historical information.
• Situation This is the situation that you inherit as commander on the spot.
• Mission This is your main goal, simply stated. When the scenario
is launched and the game screen appears, go to the card (available from
the central island or pressing the "M") and place the cursor on the
Objective symbol for more detailed information on obtaining and
maintenance the lens.
• Victory Conditions This is the total points that mark the different
levels of victory or defeat, as determined by the scenario designer.
• This is your available Forces Command. When the scenario is launched
and the game screen appears, go to the Order of the box in the center of battle
Island to access more detailed information on your subject
commanders and combat units.
• Biographical Information This is a short biography of commander you will play.
When you are finished viewing the description of the scenario, you can select Start
