What is of interest to me about these disputes is that Americans had (and have) them. Its clear that the war, and this battle's significant footprint in it, digs a deep and wounding hole in the American collective psyche. No-one hears disputes of, nor cares about, who fired the first shot at Omaha Beach, Bastogne, Cantigny, Hue or Kasserine.
