Don't know why.....everything was working fine, but.....
Suddenly get an error message when trying to start the game.
I seemingly need to re-install BUT since I can't deactive
my license (since I can't get into the game) what is a person
to do?

Hey Chamberlain,
Eh, I was having some serious virus issues so I ran a complete virus scan
that wiped out (I knew while it was running that it was gonna mess up some
programs) some vital files. I'm sure the only way to fix it is to re-install
but I don't know what to do about the license issue since I can't even begin
to actually get into the game. All I can do is un-install it and start over
but the bloody license thing is gonnna get me. I just want to make sure there's
nothing else I can do before I un-install. Damn.

It wasn't necessary to report your post to the moderators. Posting in the tech support forum is all you need to do to get some help.
If a virus scanner has messed up your game, you can try just re-installing over your current game (no uninstall required). This will not wipe out any of your game files (saved games, etc. will be retained) and it shouldn't affect your activation.

Sorry about that.
Tried the re-install route....no go.

Well you should probably try an uninstall and reinstall then. The folder with your saved game info is retained during uninstall, so you won't lose anything.

What about the license?

Once you get the game re-installed and it works, you're activation might still be ok. If it's not, all you have to do is send an email to the activation address and we'll reset it.

OK Little Powell, I'll give it a shot.
Thanks.
Did a re-install (without deleting my old SOWGB folders
to, hopefully, preserve the license). Sadly, I'm getting
the same runtime error. So I'll try it again, this time
deleting everything, and see what happens.
Very bizarre. When it asked for my license key number,
I pasted it in.....and got the same runtime error.
I'm at a loss.
Reckon I'm gonna need a license reset in any event....
assuming i can figure out what's going on in the first place,
if you don't mind.

If you had virus problems so serious that key files across the board were lost in the cleaning, I'd seriously consider backing up your data, formatting the HDs, and starting from scratch. You're going to have nothing but headaches moving forward trying to make everything work again.
