Here is a small video of the replay option. It's very easy to save, and load.

Oh. You just get blocks? Not the actual sprites and all the combat? What use is that?

This is the only way we could get the replay file size down to something reasonable. This will work for a full army multi-hour battle and can be replayed at up to 10x real time.

If you want full video replay, FRAPS is your choice.

I like it Jim, and thanks. Will we be able to modify the replay files in anyway? What I mean is create different block types, flags, tags, and the replay toolbar?

Just thinking that if those blocks could be modded to look like painted figurines. You can have the replay look like a table top battle.

One more thing, will there be a SDK soon?

We never intended to show the full game in replay. It was made to run as fast as possible. We were up in the air about showing it on the terrain or mini map, obviously the terrain won out.

The really good part is that as opposed to games which run replays by saving the commands and just re-running the game, this might work to show replays from mods and different patches without having to install said mods/patches.

It's a tradeoff, but obviously this way is a lot easier to implement, and good in a different way.

Exactly Garnier! If you have the map, you should be able to view the replay. I admit that I wanted to originally loose all the terrain objects and trees, but the rest of the guys nixed that idea :) I just wanted it to run really fast so that you can examine what happened in the battle closely.

The blocks & toolbar *should* be moddable. These are standard type graphics, you would just have to locate the graphics files, relevant CSV files and mod as usual. The flags are the same as used in the main battles.

The replay files were not intended to be edited and will not be discussed in a future update to the SDK.

An update to the SDK is down the road a bit.

The objects are in a replay.dat package, you could mod this I think as long as all the names are the same.

Except not yet, packages aren't yet moddable.
