Here is the website for Windows 8. It was released on Friday (yeah, I'm one day late).

I tried one of the betas, and I don't dislike it as much as some people will. I'm thinking I'll just stay with 7. Even though I can get a pretty good deal on a sidegrade I'd have to have a pretty good reason, such as better sound performance, or gaming performance to be tempted to switch.

Hi.

I don't understand why people are knocking Windows 8 when it just recently came out (retail), and has been out for the last couple of months for testing. Try it before making a decision on how good, or bad it is.

Everything is a matter of preference (everything in life is that way), so if someone says that NO I won't use it, explain why. It adds nothing too the conversation if people post "I just don't like it", or "I use to use Vista, and I use Windows 7", how in the name does that further this particular discussion, or any discussion for that matter?

Windows 8 has nothing to do with Vista, so why make the comparison? Yes MS has made some pretty bad moves in the past, but not everything they have done has been a bad move but that does not mean that Windows 8 is worse, or better until you give it a try.

Personally I am going to give it a try no matter what I read, or hear. I do the exact same thing when it comes to games, sure I read about them, but I have never not tried a game just because someone says so. I have in the past played games that got some really low ratings, and I have bought them, and they have been the best games I have in my gaming closet.

Try it (win 8), if you don't like it trash it, if you like it then you are better off for taking the time.

I have been visiting many forums, and all I have been seeing are negatives about everything out there no matter what was being discussed, and the negative comments on these other forums have always been from people who just do not take the time to find out for themselves why they don't like something, and rather listen to others who have no idea what they are talking about because they may be using the software for something that they may never use it for.

Anyway, I had to say something.

Way to go Mike. I'm of the same opinion, try it and judge for yourself. I just downloaded win 8 and so far so good . I played a game on it already and it plays just fine. I like the fact that it is in line with all the phones and tablets. So the surfing is the same as my tablet, easy to learn. But that is my humble observations.

It's the only way to know for certain. :)

I really don't like 8 for a few reasons.

First and the biggest. It's designed for ARM processors. What that means is they are no longer trying to develop an OS for the newest and best systems, they are building the OS for an underpowered processor. That means when it comes to optimization you'll be designing applications and programs DOWN to what the least common demonstrator is, a mobile chip. A 1.8 GHZ Dual Core processor on a ARM architecture is FAR less powerful and capable than a 1.8 GHZ processor built for non ARM architecture.

Second, this one I am less certain of because I haven't seen the real impacts but the idea behind the Microsoft store which is what Microsoft is trying to make as the primary store for programs is something that runs counter to the PC world as I like it.

In the Microsoft store or windows store or w/e it's called Microsoft gets a 30% cut of EVERY APPLICATION SOLD so while some might get better exposure it also means many software companies will go from getting 90% or w/e they get now of their revenues to 70%. This has the potential to dramatically harm the software and game producers. It also means companies that choose to still sell via their website wont get the same exposure and will be left behind and go out of business as well.

I hate this concept because rather than making the computer and internet MORE open they are making it more closed. They are trying to follow Apples closed market strategy and as a result will be locking down the os and making it less dynamic and diverse and going with the first point less capable.

I HATE the idea of a closed eco system. Look at their surface tablet, it doesn't even come with Google preloaded in, they are forcing Bing on people to benefit them. It's a smart business move but not the best move for the consumer and limits competition. Sure you can still use it through the browser or get it through a work around but the point is its making the eco system more restricted and less open which is bad for the everyday user imho.

Hi.

I agree with you Flanboy, but I'm not going to blame Windows 8, but Microsoft itself since they are the one's who are pushing hard to gain a much larger market share, and as far as the developers are concerned there is not all that much I can do for them. They will unfortunately have to live under the new way of doing things, or be left behind (dev's choice to make), but with that said, it's not about the market share or the dev's which concerns me, but it's where Windows 8 is further introducing us users/consumers to Cloud Computing that has me thinking.

Now we all know about Cloud Computing, it's been around for a bit now, and with the introduction of Windows 8 is only another step too eventually have everyone on the same page.

For those who do not know what Cloud Computing actually is, I light heartily suggest that you do a Google search for cloud computing, or visit the link below.

http://www.allthingscrm.com/cloud-compu ... mmies.html

Anyone here familiar with Steam's SteamWorks Cloud? You wouldn't be alone since the majority if not all the games that Steam has control over is part of their Cloud servers. Many companies are part of the "Cloud", and the real kicker is that we all have been slowly becoming a part of this without even knowing what it is.

I have personally known about this for over 5 years now, and have had many discussions concerning our future.

But... I'm still going to purchase Windows 8 because I am a sucker for software, and I like to see what Win 8 is all about.

i know someone who works for microsoft so i have actually tried 8.so i have taken the time to find out.
i know next to nothing about computering so all i can go on is what it does for me which is nothing i need.

it was the same with vista which took something that worked, covered it in liberal doses of bloated crap so that it didnt.so i got rid of it.
w7 does work for me and my uses so im having it on my latest machine.im not wasting increasingly hard to earn money on an os which gives me nothing i need or want.

i dont feel the need to buy a piece of software just because 'its the latest thing'.
doubtless in future when i upgrade one of my other machines w8 will be installed with it,but if it doesnt do what i want or need then its coming off.
i have tried it and i dont see what all the fuss is about, especially as i have no need of all this touchscreen malarky. cheers
